Congratulations to the winners of the ESRB's rating summaries micro-essay contest: Juri Peterson of Lakeside, CA, Richard Hosler of New Haven, IN and Joshua Conway of Los Angeles, CA. In addition to receiving a console and games, they'll each join ESRB for PAX East in Boston next March and be featured in ESRB's 2010 PS...A campaign (including being turned into Penny Arcade characters in the ads). Thanks SO MUCH to everyone that took part in helping spread the word to parents about rating summaries!Read More

My daughter is 3, and although she is bright there's no reason for me to use the parental controls.. I might when she's older though, we'll see =)

I keep mine on. My little ones and their friends have to ask permission before they play most games, and even then, sometimes they are denied. Spenser is tough, but fair! /fist pump

Many parents forgo the parental controls in favor of their own involvement and restriction, but it's always nice to know they're there as a backstop if you ever decide to activate them...especially when it comes to managing online access like who the kids can play with. But to your point Virginia, that's probably something for when the little ones get a bit older. And Spenser, I match your fist pump with two thumbs up!

as a guideline and then make their choices based on their individual
