Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) There's
been a bit of controversy lately about a Super Bowl ad for the upcoming
Dante's Inferno video game. As one of those quoted in this ABC News
story points out, is an ad for an M-rated game so concerning amidst ads
for beer and erectile dysfunction drugs? If you're watching the game
with your kids, would an ad l...ike ...this offer an opportunity to talk to them about these issues, or a reason to not watch the game with them?

Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) If your child has an iPhone they're probably playing games on it like everyone else. Not all iPhone games have ESRB ratings but many do, so parents can check and be involved in making sure the ones their kids play are right for them. Today's NYT has more on the iPhone as an up-and-coming gaming device...

To the delight of developers and buyers, games that sell for at least $30 on platforms like PlayStation cost a fraction of that on the iPhone platform.

Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) Great piece in the WP today talking about parents getting a handle on the amount of time their children spend with the media in their lives. A new Kaiser Family Foundation study shows kids are using more media, and for more time each day. Do you have household rules for your kids' media use?

Fatima Nascone, a mother of four in Highland, thought she had done a good job limiting the proliferation of electronic devices in her household. There was a time, it's true, when the household TV was on for meals, but she'd put a stop to that. Her two older sons, 7 and 8, had Nintendo DS hand-hel...

Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) Do video games teach kids good things, bad things, or are they just good old fashioned amusement? Check out this interesting piece on Kotaku to hear what some parents think and share your thoughts.

One parent has put Modern Warfare and Halo to educational use for their four-year-old. Another believes Okami teaches values. These are the things the parents among you told us about what games do — or don't do — for children.

I've often criticized parents for not taking enough responsibility for the gaming habits of their children, but an experience I had over the weekend gives me hope that there are indeed responsible parents out there.

ignorant parent, not willing to understand what the internet is. She could just as easily not plug the systems in or not allow her child to connect it to her wifi.

Conversations like the one the author was privvy to happen nearly everyday in my community. I am blessed to know many parents at my kids' school who CARE what their kids watch and play. Not all of us have the same values, so not all of us share the same views on WHAT games we allow our kids to play. But we share the same goal of GUIDING our kids... See More' choices. And I am grateful to have other parents who share their experiences with me. "What did you think of that game?" "Were the controls difficult?" "How much violence was in it?" These are questions we ask each other. I personally think the ESRB has definitely stepped up its game in the last couple of years, making the ratings guides MORE obvious and using clever advertising to get the attention of not only parents but kids as well.
