Oceanside Museum of Art Renshaw will discuss the process and meaning behind her work during an informal “Gallery Walk and Talk” on Thursday, February 25th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The lecture is $5 and free for members of Oceanside Museum of Art.

Plastic Fantastic explores the contrast between McMansions, plastic surgery and the artificiality of... high end living with San Diego’s gorgeous seaside, weather and natural beauty. While seemingly random and difficult to decipher, Plastic Fantastic references today’s open-source culture of sampling and recycling. Fashion, modern architecture and beach aestheticism combine and collide in Renshaw’s vibrant mixed media compositions.

Oceanside Museum of Art San Diego artist Les Perhacs interprets nature through geometry. He looks to nature for his inspiration, constantly discovering elements of geometry fused with the chaos of nature. Each sculpture in the Chaos series is made from a single geometric form that Perhacs cuts apart to reveal the internal entropy. The Art of... Les Perhacs is curated by Michael C. Gross and will be on view in the Parker Gallery November 4, 2009 through January 8, 2010.

“Meet the Artist” Les Perhacs on Saturday, December 12th at 2:00 p.m. “Meet the Artist” is free with museum admission and complimentary for members of Oceanside Museum of Art as a benefit of membership. Perhacs will discuss his forty-five year journey as an artist. Beginning with his education at Pratt Institute in New York where he studied under David Smith, Willem & Elaine de Kooning, and Salvador Dali, to his studies at Chouinard Art Institute, his career as an industrial designer and a toy designer, and his time collecting specimens for Marineland of the Pacific and studying ravens for UCLA. All of these important experiences have culminated in this major series of work. His work can be found in public and private collections around the nation including the San Diego International Airport, Whatcom Museum in Washington and the Frye Art Museum in Seattle.

Oceanside Museum of Art San Diego NOW: Eight UCSD Visual Artists presents top artistic talent emerging from one of the finest conceptual art institutions in the nation, University of California, San Diego. Designed to encourage a meaningful dialogue between Masters of Fine Arts students and the larger San Diego art community, San Diego NOW fe...atures artists working in a variety of media, including video, painting, photography, sculpture and performance with a shared concern for the changing dynamics of society and our place within it. The exhibition curated by Danielle Susalla presents the work of artists James Enos, Jesse Mockrin, Zac Monday, Omar Pimienta, Lesha Maria Rodriguez, Tim Schwartz, Julia Westerbeke, and Suzanne Wright.

Oceanside Museum of Art is proud to present this dynamic group of San Diego artists who are at the forefront of contemporary art making.

Join us Thursday, December 3rd, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. for an Artist’s
