Outdoor Photographer Magazine “I’ve spent an awful lot of time in my life, as I’m sure many of you have, trying to hike just a little farther, climb just a little higher, in the belief that the most beautiful view was just over the next ridge. True, sometimes it was, but just as often, I passed right by a place of truly exceptional beauty in my mistaken belief that the most extraordinary place was the one that was farthest away.”

so true, yet it is also the thirst we have nature photographers to hike a little further to see the next river bend, the next clearing in the woods...i would add that often, depending on the light and my mood, i discover new compositions that are unique...yet I am there every week!

I went a whole weekend in NH trying to get a GREAT sunrise or sunset shot. I wasn't picky. Either or. I didn't get that shot until just a few miles from home on a busy Maine route. There it was.....the mountains far behind but with a good showing of the light against the mountains. It is now one of my favorite sunset shots!!! By the way....people ... LOVE just about every photo posted to this site!! What great works!!! Some of the photos remind me of some taken by my photo group called NEPE. Some are way better than anything I have seen, but some of the shots I would claim my fellow group homies could take better. I LOVED the photo of the moose in the Maine sample. Just great!! Love the wildlife photos in general.

Outdoor Photographer Magazine “While I may find a scene interesting as I stand on the ground, I often find myself wondering what it would look like if I climbed a tree and shot it that way,” says Jim Oltersdorf, who recently taped the Discovery Channel special, “Risk Takers 2: High-Risk Photographer Jim Oltersdorf.”

Nothing nearly as adventerous for me... some backyard birding and a few deer in NJ is as "wild" as it has gotten for me ;)

One thing we can all agree on (I think) is to get out there... be present and enjoy where you are while practicing our craft. All are good times.

Ian Plant’s landscapes aren’t abstracts and they aren’t entirely literal. Plant uses uniquely photographic techniques and tools to transform the scene, and his images end up going far beyond a documentary shot.

Remembering a moment by taking a photo of it with any camera is freezing that moment and holding it forever, no matter what you're holding in your hand! Think back to how we all started, 110's lil point and shoots? Keep that in mind guys.....That's how i started, I keep my lil 110 on the wall in my studio for that very reason. Years later I bumped ... Read Moremyself up to an A2E, then a 40D, and I keep graduating up. With all the gear I have, I'll never forget that lil 110...
