robbie - there's a story on winter kit on the OSS website news section, i cant' remember the brand of my (excellent) ones now but know i wrote it down at the time
leila/edinburgh/lakes group people - set up a group!! you are truly blessed in terms of places to swim. if you want to pick a date and place for your first outing in april and let us know we can put it in the next newsletter. if you're serious about it and want a chat about practicalities, let me know

the alternative to doing a regular group is to do a one off 'social swim'. bryn edwards did our first last year and got 30 people together for 5km across coniston. it's a godo way to start a group, but takes drive and focus to get off the group. bryn & i are putting together a how-to pack of tips which we'll put out in the april newsletter, plus legal disclaimers, so watch out for that

TRAINING SESSIONS just saw michael's post about being motivated to join training sessions - with you there michael; in fact we'll announce something soon through the oss so watch out for the newseltter (sign up at www.outdoorswimmingsociety.com)
there's a lot of motivation in numbers.. a bunch of us started going to a fitness session last year in advance of the bosphorus swim (6 miles trhough the centre of istanbul, current assisted, recommended it to anyone ) and are still going a year later
the genius of it is that all you have to do is show up and they do the rest.. 90 minutes later (3 times longer than i'd normally spend in a pool) you;'re fit and happy and can swim better

when we were researching the book dom (the photographer) took the tube that clare is talkign about on swims - it was to counteract the weight of the underwater camera but we did get to take time out on it every now and then...

hi emma .. what fine taste you have in swims... we will be doing swims over the summer, featuring the new oss hot tub to really kick back and enjoy the scenery on the swim & kick back and enjoy a hot tub and wood smoke after... we are not going to try and compete with the likes of great north swim in size of event/ sponsorship that requires, but hope to have regular society swims of different lengths and for different experience levels. We'll have some 5km and some longer ones - after a few years of meandering a few of the team want to experience what it's like to do a much longer swim. But I also hope that we can encourage members to do novice swims for new members, just to give up a morning to take people on their first wild swim.
How exactly it is all going to pan out depends a bit on what BLP, who are investigating the legal side for us, come back and say about our liability. Will keep everyone posted via the website/newslettters, Kate

Members have pointed out that there are a few other groups on Facebook calling themselves the 'Outdoor Swimming Society' and using our web address and my name. We've made contact with them asking them to close down and use this page which is the real OSS
