I have been enjoying your magazine for a number of years and recently joined your fan site on Facebook. Recently, your canine articles have been nice to read. FYI, the November 2009 issue of the American Kennel Club Gazette has an article entitled: Evacuation Route / Silver Lining starting on Page 38 which discusses... preparedness, assistance, and relief for animals pre, in, and post disaster situations (floods, fires, etc). A key organiation is SARTS (State Animal Response Team) which works with state emergency groups, FEMA, and the American Red Cross. Perhaps some of your readers would like to volunteer, as I did after reading the article,Read More

A narrow spot in a creek that requires you to look for a place to jump is likely a gorge or a chasm or some other very dangerous place to make a leap for it.

Very few people are well enough to actually walk away from a plane crash. Apple trees are small and will snap and cushion the blow, but water will require a subsequent swim to avoid drowning... Read More. Either way you look at it, plane crashes suck.

yikes, 9. I'd continue to an airport and land there, BTW... No need to crash land just because the pilot is incapacitated!

we were having a debate yesterday..are mixed better (because they are less "crazy and inbred") then a pure bred? I stand by my purebred(but no paper so not SO inbred) springer spaniel...comment?

You can find crazy pure-bred dogs and crazy mutts. Depends a lot on the line within breeds. Many pure-bred lines are breeding only for looks and confirmation, which is a recipe for puppies that are dumb as a post. But there are also a lot of good breeders that look specifically for drive and intelligence. These breeders tend to be producing working... Read More stock dogs, hunting dogs, and service dogs. Still, if you're patient and aren't likely to fall for the first cute dog that licks your face, you can probably find a dog that's every bit as smart by trolling local shelters.

The November issue was great! I voted for the other cover, but as long as the contents were the same, it's cool with me. I especially enjoyed the "Destinations" section. I wanted to go to every one of the places mentioned. They all seemed amazing. The survial stories were pretty terrific too! I will definitely reconsider my course of action next time I'm wondering through New Hampshire. $25,000! That's robbery! The whole "live free or die" state slogen seems pretty bogus now.
