We are just now getting our first decent snow fall ,snow pack is at 60% of normal. early April is a good time to plan for, but check flows before you go and be flexable, I have floated it around that time at 700csf to 8000csf the flow could be any where depending on snow pack and how fast it warms up this spring. you can get a good guide book for ... See Morearound10 bucks by calling the Vale BLM office in Vale Or. (541) 473-3144 I would recomend getting one. Its basiclly a class 3 river(I'm talkin the lower section) most of the people we help off the river are first time on the river that got took by surprise by a rapid they had the skills to run. Many of the rapids are just beyond turns and tend to get people in trouble at times. at low flows take a good look at Bullseye and Nuisance. If you need any info call the # above and ask for Dan - the river ranger

Typically the least predictable in terms of snowpack and adequate water flows, the Owyhee drainage snowpack is currently at more than 90 percent of average. A typical Owyhee rafting season lasts from mid March through the end of May. On a good water year, navigable flows will last into June. On a poor water year (such as 2007) there may be only a ... See Moreweek's work of navigable flows. Barring a prolonged period of warm and wet weather in late March or April, adequate flows look likely through most of May this year.

Laurie Black I used to work for the Sho-Pai Tribes at Duck Valley, and as an Idaho native, my heart belongs to the Owyhee. I'm living in NM now, so I'm glad to find this site where I can share the adventures vicariously - thanks!

Tom Berridge Hi Megan. I am also contemplating a trip on the Lower Owyhee for the last full week of March. Maybe we could help each other out on shuttling. Let me know if you are interested. Or anybody else who will be on the river at that time.
