AFI Silver is proud to host the fifth annual New African Films Festival, co-presented by AFI, TransAfrica Forum, and afrikafe. The vibrancy of African filmmaking from all corners of the continent will be on display. This year also includes a selection of classic African films... recently restored by the World Cinema Foundation.

Thursday, March 19th is opening night for the New African Films Festival at the AFI Silver Theater and Cultural Center in Silver Spring. Co-sponsors TransAfrica Forum, afr...ikafé and AFI are presenting some of Africa's finest filmmaking. The weekend festival consists of 14 feature-length films from Senegal, Morocco, Uganda, Ethiopia and other nations.
Opening night brings an Ethiopian film by first time director Yehdego Abeselom. 13 MONTHS OF SUNSHINE explores the tension between traditional values, cultural identity and the pursuit of one's dreams. A marriage of convenience becomes complicated by jealousy and a clash of cultural values.
