Hi everyone, sorry for the extended silence. The Guardian is my next project. Since September I've been working exclusively on my dissertation, but now I'm back to work on 2 Across.
Eliot - I have no plans for a landscape mode at this point. If you notice in the Crosswords app the reason that works is that they have made their own keyboard rather than using Apple's. Theirs is much smaller, so doesn't dominate the screen in landscape mode the way Apple's would. I like the aesthetic quality of Apple's keyboard better, but landscape mode just doesn't make sense if the entire screen is taken up just by the keyboard + clue bar.
I can make single-tapping the clue bar to bring up the keyboard an option, no problem.

2 Across Hi everyone, thanks for all your kind words! Stuart: I'm working on the Guardian. Their now-free crosswords are freely available only as HTML which will be painful (though not impossible) to teach my app to read. I wrote them today asking whether they'd be willing to make them available in a more straightforwardly machine-readable form. Feel free to contact them asking them to consider working with me! Maybe reader feedback would be more effective than my own correspondence.
