A Beginner's Guide to Freedom CNN "confused" by new government guidelines for mammograms.

Hmm...a government agency recommends women seek fewer health care services right before a government takeover of the health care system. That's a real head-scratcher guys, good luck piecing this little mystery together.

A Beginner's Guide to Freedom From NPR’s coverage of the jobs report earlier today: “The high figure surprised everyone including economists and market watchers who didn't expect unemployment to pass 10 percent until the spring.”

I have no doubt that NPR didn’t see it coming, but was anyone here surprised?

The unemployment rate has surpassed 10 percent for the first time since 1983 -- reaching 10.2 percent in October. In September, the unemployment rate was 9.8 percent.

That's a good point Matthew. I find it difficult to cross the line from "worried anxieties" to "insightful preparedness." Fear is instinctual and tough to suppress. Have you any suggestions?

Lots of pot. Seriously, though, it's something I'm trying to work on. I'm trying to find a way to be mindfully prepared for bad possibilities without eating myself up in side over possibilities I have no control over.

As far as I know, Harvard professor Michael Sandel is no libertarian. Nevertheless, he is a very engaging teacher, and his lecture series on justice is quite interesting. Check out the link below for a classroom discussion on the ethical arguments for libertarianism. The debate does not raise any issues that liberta...rians haven’t already encountered and dismantled, but I thought Dr. Sandel did a remarkable job of maintaining his objectivity while at the same time giving libertarian ethical arguments an honest treatment.Read More
