One asked below for comments about SOLOIST. There is no comment box so I will answer here. The film, although solid in many respects, failed miserably short to demonstrate any insight into mental illness. Jamie Foxx simply channels Hoffman for his best Rain Man impersonation throughout. The largest disgrace is that the film never explains how... Read More/why Foxx has this disease and how best to treat it. What a joke. The American public needs to be EDUCATED in this disease and specifically bi-polar Even college educated folks believe that shizophrenia means that "one has multiple personalities" and bi-polar means "one has high highs and low lows" both of which we know are BS. Hopefully, someone will have the guts to show it the way it is.

A Summer in the Cage is curious to know what folks thought of Jamie Foxx's performance as a schizophrenic in THE SOLOIST (question of the day)?

I just watched this on Sundance. It was moving. I felt for both Sam and Ben. You can't grasp exactly why this disease occurs in the human experience, why it is present in our DNA to unfold and be a force you cannot recon with except to take medication so you can learn to live and manage with it. But anyone who has depression or bipolar, or even... Read More anyone experiencing extremely difficult times in their live for one reason or another knows that simply managing or dealing with a problem is not a particularly satisfying or easy thing in and of itself. Basic problems do have a tencency to be resolved and go away, unfortunately, this disease does not. But this film is unique in its ability to display the unfolding of a mental disability and how a human copes with the unknown unfolding within himself. I hope Sam is well. Ben, I am sure you have learned much by doing this film and I hope everyone who see it will take advantage of its unique footage

Ben, this must have been so hard for you to do for six years, but it is an amazing piece of work and you should be very proud. Sam, you should be very proud of yourself. Through your very difficult struggle, you have given the world of bi-polar disease a face and hope. Thank you both of you.
