With our July 27 issue, ADVANCE for LPNs will cease print publication. The good news is LPNs will have a new home with our ADVANCE for Nurses publications.

I agree. but did you notice there were more job adds for RN's than LPN's in an LPN magazine.I complained but it didn't do any good

ADVANCE for LPNs
Hi, all. Thank you for your comments. This is surely a difficult time for all of us. I noticed a few questions about the closure of our publication. I'm not sure if you looked at the link to our Web page in this update, but it explains the reasons for the closure and the announcement of the new home for LPNs at ADVANCE for Nurses. You can access the story here or at advanceweb.com/LPN.

Thanks again for all of your support and friendship.
Sincerely,
Tom

Listen to an ADVANCE exclusive interview with an LPN who saved the lives of five people in November 2008.
Pat Green

Pat Green I need to take this opportunity to vent and maybe in the process, I will be enlightened or steered in the right direction. I am a recent grad of practical nursing (May 2008). The entire time we were in school and doing clinicals, people were always telling us, "oh we would love to hire you guys when you all have finished."

Well since that time (and even before I finished school), I have sent out hundreds of resumes' to all different venues. To no avail, EVERYONE wants you to have 1 year of experience. No one counts clinicals as experience and no one wants to give a new LPN a chane to gain the experience she desires/needs to start her careeer.

At times, I regret even going to school to pursue my dream. For all the trouble I have been thru, I may as well had gone back to my old job as an administrative assistant.

Anyway, thanks for giving me a venue to vent my frustrations.

Pat Green, LPN

Don't feel bad, I stopped working fulltime in 1994 due to some injuries I had had. Then I had family members who became ill and I cared for them, I let my license lapse and have just now gotten it back....all my prior years of experience mean nothing, nor does the fact that I have spent over $500 to get my license reinstated...I took courses that ... Read MoreI believed would make me more marketable and even that hasn't helped. The best I've gotten so far was as a personal care assistant! And I saw a news report yesterday that said if you were iun the healthcare field, you would never be without a job!

President Barack Obama heard a fairly unfamiliar sound yesterday. A chorus of boos. The source of the catcalls was from an audience of physicians at the AMA National Conference in Chicago. Obama was there to push his plans for healthcare reform. While...(read more)

I work in a school for the inner city kids ages 16 to 23. Last week we sent 35 kids home with flu symptoms and high fevers. Most have come back to school now. One got tested and came up positive for infuenza A and the H1N1 result hasnt come back yet.

One of the more amusing things with being a student in the PN program is how often you will diagnose yourself with what's being taught. At least, that's what I do. You learn about all the possible symptoms with each disease or illness and immediately

Melissa Coldiron

Melissa Coldiron Hi... I'm a LPN who has worked as a agency nurse the majority of my nursing career. Usually my work schedule for June would be booked; however I have 5 days booked placing myself on call everyday. Can anyone else relate to this? I'm curious if I can receive unemployment since I'm not getting my normal 40 hours a week? I want to go for my RN and specialize in surgical nursing...can credits from excelsior college be transferred. How is the online/home program Excelsior?

Lisa Morell

Lisa Morell Are you a nurse looking for change? I started CT Nurses for Reform last year (you might remember the articles in Advance for LPN’s), and I’m now in the process of changing the organization to “United Nurse Reform”, and building a new website. I need you all involved!
This grassroots effort will be a tremendous undertaking, and full time job; so while I seek funding for this project, you can help by signing our Petition, and passing it along to all your colleagues and families. LPN’s, help us collect data….take our SURVEY!
Visit ctnursereform.org, but keep in mind this site will not be up for much longer, as we update it. Don’t forget to view our State Affiliate page, where your colleagues who signed up to help are posted! Hopefully, they are still willing to be involved, as I have let this project slide, due to time constraints and no funding.

Connie Clark

Connie Clark I am currently a SPN, will graduate in August. I was a certified medical assistant and loved working with the patients. I can not wait to get my feet back in the field again. Any advice on the NCLEX studing material. My school required us to use the ATI testing modules, I am not that trilled with it. Has anyone else used this material, how did you like it and did you pass NCLEX?

Chris
Chris
I used the ATI material with my school also.. It was alright.. I passed the NCLEX in the minimum 80 questions and it took me 45 minutes.... Just a hint while taking the test.. throw out any answers that have absolute answers like with the words .. every.. all... always.... nothing is ever a certainty so those answers will always be wrong.. also remember your ABC's in Nursing... Airway.. Breathing... Circulation.. cause most answers are based on that.

Crystal Price-Enoch

Crystal Price-Enoch I have been an LPN since 2006 and would like to go back to school for my RN. Hearing so many different things about Excelsior, College Network and Distance Learning Schools. I am not trying to pay a lot for this muffler. LOL Does anyone have any advice?

Pamela
Pamela
If you can, try a community college or a program that will let you test into advanced placement. I do know people that did finish both type of programs. I have heard better experiences from traditional programs. If you decide that you want to change ur mind, you have to continue to pay for something that u are not using.
