Plums only.

The world of design is full of lemons – but on occasion, there’s a plum that stands out and begs to be recognized.

Every two years, AIGA Richmond recognizes the best of the plums — the best of design in Central Virginia. And it’s time to honor design excellence at AIGA Richmond’s 5th biennial Greater Richmond... Awards for Design Excellence (GRADE) competition.

On March 20, we’ll showcase the very best plums to celebrate our common passion for the creative, have some fun and honor those among us who have made the GRADE.

A reception and exhibition followed by awards ceremony will be held at the Virginia Historical Society located in the Museum District, two blocks from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, near Richmond’s historic Fan District.

Parking is free and located in the VHS lot behind the museum.

Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served during the reception with an open bar.

A fundamental shift is going on in design: control is passing from designers to users. Now more than ever design audiences are demanding control—over the way design solutions look, behave, respond to their needs, even over how design is delivered. NYTimes.com Design Director Khoi Vinh takes a closer look at how the ind...ustry-leading news site is meeting the challenges posed by this shift. Along the way, he charts the course of his own career as a Web designer, and how his fundamental approach to design has evolved with the Web.
