The meters. When I first heard them I was blown. Really hip, really catchy and man did they have a groovy sound. Leo Nocentelli, their axe wielding funkmaster knows the use of the notes and the between the notes. And does he have the power to move you. Check this out. This is one of the most covered track. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqKmRQnBm M8

Hard bop gone modern. Hard to fathom how it could sound? The phrase I could come up with was "abstract art". Then I heard Mike Stern. This track called "PLAY" an awesome track coupled with some mind numbing solo work by each artist (get the original, out here's just a clipped version) Not to forget, in this there's th...e awesome richard bona on the bass and dennis chambers on drums.

I believe that mind blowing technique and jazz orientation came together on the electric with Al Di Meola. Lightning fast runs, combined with playing profound changes with cool aplomb Al Di was and still is cruising around. If you can ignore his rather arrogant demeanor and listen to what he says through his music and ...in interviews, he does clear quite a bit of chaos in the mind that's coming to terms with music. The attitude I guess comes from working his ass off and getting there while doing it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgaRjKe2H kgRead More

Mr 335. a.k.a Larry Carlton. Want to hear a creamy tone with extremely tasteful licks? Go no further. Mr Carlton's ability to navigate chord changes with amazing sounding, moving solos shows his mastery over the instrument and his genre of music. He was and is my first real guitar hero right from the moment I heard his sound way back in 90's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVpE52QzP sM

Heard of Steve Morse? Beyond the Deep Purple avtaar that is? I believe he's truely one of the underpromoted, under appreciated, under everything in fameland, guitar god. His tone, his technique, his phrasing, his approach to learning is amazing. He's the one guitar god that deserves the "god" tag more than many who see...m to want to flaunt it on their shoulders. Check this instrumental piece out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-CC2jOVN SIRead More

john abercrombie. Timless. not just this track but the entire album is a collectors piece. after listening I get the feeling that even so called art music these days is light years behind those days. Enjoy this outer spacey track. its really timeless.

From 1974's "Timeless", here John Abercrombie (guitar) with Jack DeJohnette (drums) and Jan Hammer (pianist) for the title track. The tube does not allow me to upload the song in it's entirety so I had to cut it a minute. Sampled later for Slum Village with Jay Dee for "Reunion." Enjoy!
