AMERICANS FOR CLEAN ENERGY.ORG 3 October 2008 -- The extension of the production and investment tax credits that benefit the renewable energy industry were passed as part of the House bail-out package for the financial industry.

The tax credit package, which is the same that passed the Senate September 24, will extend the PTC for one year and the IT...C for eight years. The extensions would be at least partially paid for by a change in the tax code for the oil and gas industry.

Wind and solar businesses around the country have applauded the decision.

"The American solar energy industry received a boost today with the passage of H.R. 1424, which included a provision to extend the tax credits for renewable energy by eight years," said Mark Finocchario, President and CEO of SCHOTT Solar, Inc.

This article from the Wall Street Journal details some of the costs of nuclear.

AMERICANS FOR CLEAN ENERGY.ORG Quote from Tom Friedman on solar and wind tax breaks:

“At a time when we should be throwing everything
into clean power innovation, we are squabbling over
pennies. These credits are critical because they
ensure that if oil prices slip back down again —
which often happens — investments in wind and
solar would still be profit...able. That’s how you launch a
new energy technology and help it achieve scale, so it
can compete without subsidies.”
