I used Plaquenil for years with great success. I also have Lupus SLE, and APS. 5 years ago I slowly went off all meds and gave up all animal proteins. I felt great, lost a lot of weight and no more pain. Stressful year 2009 and Lupus now out of remission. Pain is back, weight is back. Still no animal proteins and dreading the fact that I must go back on meds. Any suggestion? Anyone just on Plaquenil w/o the other drugs for APS and Lupus?

Yikes. I am already having these bone issues. I guess the high enzymes in my blood are caused by it. Guess it is good to know it is related. Treatment at this time is monitoring, anticoagulation therapy, and vitamin d.

I was diagnosed in 1997 after a miscarriage and prior to the successful, however difficult pregnancy with twins. My doctor was so on top of things. I had never heard of this and she tested and tested - until we found the anticardiolipin antibodies. My twin pregancy, meant I took heparin shots, low dose aspirin and at that time prednisone, it was ... See More1998. I continued through the pregnancy with many difficulties - mostly related to other genetic factors and the fact that it was a multiple gestation. But we made it and I am so grateful and will always be to my doctor for being so forward thinking. Today the twins will turn 11 soon and I rejoice in them every day! My question is I don't know any more about this disease. Do I need to worry about stroke and etc.? I actually have a low clotting ability now - I am not sure why. I take no medications. I had surgery 4 years ago for gastric bypass and had no clotting issues.

Just read this, so sad. My husband's midbrain stroke and discovery of his APS was almost a year ago. I sometimes forget how lucky we are that he has made a remarkable full recovery from the stroke. Prayers for the Sparks family.
