Renee Pope

Renee Pope Over the past several years, it has become more difficult to explain my educational background, my role, and the value I bring to my projects and teams by using the traditional terms like "library". More flexibility in the descriptive name would help me to promote the profession, my value, and more easily justify participation at association events.

Kirsten Smith

Kirsten Smith I had a wonderful opportunity to ask Gloria Zamora all sorts of questions about alignment at the SLA eastern canada chapter on Friday. I'll be voting as soon as the polls open.

Carmen L. Ward

Carmen L. Ward I'm for the association name change and I will continue to use my current job title which is recognized and known within my Company. The association name change will make a big difference in getting approval to attend conferences from Company executives. So how can we go wrong - Association name that has more meaning...... to management and retaining an internal title that also has meaning in the work place. I'm voting YES

Ruth Wolfish

Ruth Wolfish Let's be the professional organization for everyone that organizes and searches for strategic knowledge. Let's be the organization with Librarians at it's core but with an expanded tent that also includes other professionals that value stragetic knowledge.

Annoyed Skpro

Annoyed Skpro In one dial test session the only mention of "libraries" is after S. Abram calls them 'warehouse-y things'. Gee, why didn't that go over well?

Annoyed Skpro

Annoyed Skpro I have this question also. I am copying to here from a blog post:

"Jill--Can you point me to where the dial testing actually includes the word "librarian"? I can only find results for "special libraries" and "special libraries association". It's not clear to me that the words "libraries" or "librarians" were ever evalua......ted by themselves.

Janet Macdonald

Janet Macdonald Loved Janice Lachance's explanation in today's Executive Connections, "Why is this the right name". However I'm still hearing/reading comments like "I don't want to describe myself as a stategic knowledge professional" or "why didn't she refer to them as strategic knowledge professionals instead of professional resear......chers, librarians, information professionals...". Members need to understand that the association isn't renaming groups, but is recognizing that it represents a wide variety of professions, titles, jobs. The point is that whatever our work or whatever we call ourselves SLA/ASKPro is our organization and strategic knowledge professional is the perfect umbrella term.
