Dawna Willis

Dawna Willis Anyone have any experience with Nurse Practitioners working in a Labor & Delivery unit or triage area of a L&D unit? If so, what are their primary roles or responsibilities?

I used to work at a large teaching hospital where NP's worked in triage. They basically ran triage unless they had problems or questions, in which case they consulted the 2nd year resident. They made the decision whether or not the pt needed to be admitted or dc'd home, also monitored FHR strips (along with the RN assigned to triage). I'm not sure how it would work in a private facility.

Nursing Home Video Poem: “Living Colors” (Staff Shortage, Poor Vision, Alzheimer's Disease)

“Living Colors” was inspired by one of my hospice patients who had Alzheimer’s disease and poor eyesight. My patient needed assistance to eat, but there was a staff shortage that day. Using her fingers, she started feeding hersel...f. A hospice volunteer, I arrived to find her with food smeared around her mouth. After wondering what that experience might have been like for her, I wrote "Living Colors."
