Hey Everyone! There are just about 800 distribution sites left for AWHONN's new consumer magazine, Healthy Mom & Baby! Nurses who want to receive quarterly issues for their patients can register in the "Nurse's Office" at the link below. Be sure to go to the "Nurse's Office" and register for a new account -- the subscr...ibe button is for individual subscribers!
The magazine ships in early January 2010; and AWHONN members who sign up to receive copies will receive 135 quarterly copies for their patients in 2010.
While you're there, check out AWHONN's new consumer websites, which officially come online in January: www.Health4Mom.org and www.Health4Women.org. These sites aren't officially "launched" yet but you're welcome to take a sneak peek while we're still uploading content -- let us know what you think! Questions? Email pubs director Carolyn Cockey at carolyndc@awhonn.org.

Poetic Cries of an Uninsured Patient (Video)
A friend and fellow poet, Aurora Harris, has been living the unlivable with a torso serving as “a tomb of womb pain.” Like millions in America, she bears the added hardship of having no healthcare insurance. In addition, she is the primary caregiver of her 89-year-old mother ...who is very ill.
Throbbing with pain from an unknown infection, Aurora wrote the poem "On Deaf Ears: A Poem Before Turning Fifty." She hopes her anguished voice will be heard and help the many people agonizing in a healthcare system in need of urgent reform. You can view her reading her video poem here:

When Families Expect Miracles
Doctors and other healthcare workers are particularly challenged when a family continues to speak of divine intervention after all earthly procedures have failed. Research by the the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, USA has provided a practical approach to this concern that al...lows a family’s belief in a miracle healing to coexist with the practice of good medicine. The following strategies are involved:
1) Exploring the meaning and significance of a miracle
2) Providing a balanced, nonargumentative response to the family’s belief in a miracle
3) Negotiating patient-centered compromises while demonstrating respect for family spirituality and doing what is medically appropriate:

Jill Petrick Castenir I'm an Intermediate Fetal Monitoring instructor in northeast Ohio and there's not a lot of interest in my area for formal classes.
