Aaron Reardon We should always remember those who have died in service, but today especially, we should remember fallen Seattle Police Officer Timothy Brenton as well as those soldiers who died Thursday at Fort Hood, Texas.

Aaron Reardon Yesterday's announcement by The Boeing Company was disappointing, but now we must move forward. There are still thousands of men and women who work for The Boeing Company in this community and across Washington. We must take the necessary actions to keep the jobs we have and create the new jobs we want by making this state a more dynamic and competitive place for businesses large and small to invest and grow.

Executive Reardon, is there any sense from your perspective as to the immediate and short-term impact on Boeing and supplier/support jobs in the Snohomish County area?

I can't believe more wasn't done to keep Boeing here. People can be so stubborn. Take it from someone who has been without a job for a year now, people need to appreciate what they have and quit being so greedy. And our elected leaders need to work hard to make sure that happens by talking sense to the sometimes stupid electorate.

Boeing has decided to put its second line for building the 787 in North Charleston, S.C., not Everett.

Not like! I know you worked so hard to avert this. I'm sorry for everyone in this community, but particularly for Boeing, when they realize down the line that they made a second, spectacularly misguided strategic mistake, the first being off-shoring Dreamliner assembly.

That bites! Even after all of your stellar leadership they did what Sarajane above said. Well, they'll probably ship all the ineffective products produced from under trained workers back up to Everett to get fixed.

Aaron, thanks for trying . . . I'm so thankful my dad retired (he was part of the machinists union at Boeing)! As you know, the challenge will be the economy and jobs to fill the even larger void now that Boeing is taking the jobs to SC. I'm hopful for my hometown of Everett!!!

Good luck woking with those greedy parties. They'd rather have the business up and walk away than share profits fairly between each other....... Thankfully you are much more diplomatic than I :)

Yes Ditto to what Jeff said. Now is not the time for unions to be stubborn. They are a great thing, but only when utilized in a realistic manner. Now is not the time to dig in.

You should be mindful that South Carolina is non-union and that's why Boeing would like to move there. It's not the unions who are being greedy or stubborn it's Boeing. Profits are more important to Boeing than workers' rights. There can be no middle ground with business when profits comes before People.

More than three weeks ago, facing one of the worst recessions ever Executive Reardon proposed a balanced 2010 budget that ensures necessary County services remain intact without raising taxes. On Wednesday, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley will introduce his budget, which preserves vital city services without imposing new t...axes. Like Reardon, Daley proposes combined furlough days and pay freezes for union, non-union and law enforcement personnel to help balance the 2010 budget. This plan has served Snohomish County well in 2009, and Executive Aaron Reardon’s proposed budget in 2010 offers the same: no tax increases, continued services and more efficient government. Across the country, local goverments are finding creative ways to maintain critical services, protect jobs and live within their means. The time to find new solutions to the challenges we face, as well as end business as usual, has arrived.Read More

The aerospace industry in Washington state has tremendous potential for growth in nearly every sector. However, before we can grow we must become more competitive and and protect the jobs we have. Today, our main competitors for future jobs are countries that never before had an aerospace industry. Companies such as ...Boeing need to be in a competitive state if they are going to be successful. The question is simple: Will Washington do what is necessary to be competitive going forward? Losing the second line of the 787 will make it that much more difficult to grow the industry in our state and puts thousands of jobs at risk.Read More

We need to protect our investments here in our state. I am proud to say that I am from this area and proud of the work that all of our families have done in the industry. Why would Boeing stay in Washington if the Machinists' Union won't agree to binding arbitration in the resolution of labor disputes? When you ask, "Will Washington do what is necessary to be competitive going forward?" I think the real question should be, "Will any elected officials risk their political careers by confronting the unions directly ... Read Moreon this issue?" I think this would specifically be part of our Governor's job, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to have the support of our county executives as well.

Don't get me wrong, the unions definitely serve a noble purpose, but Boeing is going to do whatever it needs to do to protect it's cash-flows. As long as the union can implement a labor strike, Boeing will be looking at leaving the state as it's best option. What purpose will the union serve when Boeing is gone? What purpose do the unions serve in Detroit these days?
