I am 35 years old and I was adopted when I was 2 years old. I looked for my birth parents for almost 10 years and I was registered threw alot of agencies.. THe one that made the match was the state registry. For all of the adoptees out there!!!! Keep the faith and keep looking!!! U will one day find ur birth family. I... know God has a reason for EVERYTHING!!!!!! My birth mother is alive but my father was murdered 25 years ago and I struggle with the fact I will never get to meet him!!! I wish all the adoptees the best of luck!!!! If u ever find ur birth families...be ready for an emotional roller coaster. Emotionally it has been VERY hard!!!! Good Luck!!Read More

Congratulations! I searched for 26 years. I talk with my birth family, but my birth mother wants to keep it a secret. I feel like her "dirty little secret". You are so right about the emotions roller coaster. Sometimes it just gets so overwhelming.

It breaks my heart to hear these things, while I, as a birth mother, would like nothing more than to find my son. I know where he is, but I wait for him to initiate his search for me. I've made it very easy for him as the agency he was placed through has all my current information. I am not ashamed of the decision I made and am a big advocate for ... Read Moreadoption. My main hope and prayer is that his parents told him he was adopted...AND, that he does not hate me. Thank you ladies for making yourselves vulnerable.

Jean, don't ever give up hope! We recently had an adoptee on the forums who searched for and found his birth mother, who was in her late 70's. They have had a great reunion so far and things appear to be shaping up for a wonderful relationship for them for many years to come! Have you registered on the Adoption.com Registry? Used the mutual consent registry in WI?

Ann Johnson I am frustrated how hard it is for Illinois adoptees to get information.

Ann, Illinois does have a mutual consent registry as well as a confidential intermediary program - it's not access to original records, but it does offer adopted adults as well as birth parents a chance to connect, using information available in their records, via a third party. Have you contacted the program and registered on the registry? Please let me know if you need the contact info for the program, I can post it for you.

I've done all that, birth parents not registered....even found birth Mom through the confidential intermediary program, but she declined contact. What I'm frustrated with is that there isn't a way for adoptees to get information that is vital, like medical and sibling information, without their consent.

Ann I am so sorry, I know how frustrating it is to not have information. Did your CI ask your birth mother to provide updated medical information for you at least? It is my understanding that this is something they can do, upon request. You might consider posting on the Forums over at Adoption.com. It's a great way to network with others who have been where you are - they might have tips and advice on how you can gain access to information in another way.

ok - how did this show up on my page? I don't think I added them as friends or fans? I have visited their forum, which is not bad, but they ARE part of the Adoption Law Center, which is a for-profit agency.

Is Facebook now selling our names and pages to agencies?

You are right, Holly, God IS good! I have a 21 year old son whom I placed and would love at the very least to have contact with him through emails, phone calls, or snail mail. He knows how to find me and I've always made it easy for him. In the meantime, all I can do is wait and pray!
