EXCITING NEWS for all writers and lovers of African literature:

The Baobab Prize has just been launched to award and recognize African literature for young readers. It is already picking up a lot of steam and it promises to transform the African literary scene by identifying new literary giants and producing classic stories that will be appreciated for years to come.

It's really momentous, this initiative, and all lovers of African Literature need to get aboard its train and support it.

We usher summer in with a little bit of desert and a little bit of island. Reading for us on July 17, 2008, will be blogger, poet, translator and short story writer Ghazi Ghablawi (Libya) and emerging poet and editor Saradha Soobrayen (Mauritius). As both featured authors are multilingual, there is at least a small chance of tantalising excerpts in French or Arabic. Ghanaian author, Nii Ayikwei Parkes, will host.
