A remarkable book which always repays another reading. It is truly medicine for the soul; I don't seem to go six months without re-reading this and Botton's Consolations. So I always keep them both near at hand.

Good analytical of the world today. I agree that meritocracy functions in its way but not at all time. The recent credit crunch is a good example where meritocracy fails; the good lemon salesmen get away with money and freedom and they maintain at the top.
