Le Chat Lunatique plays a combination of Gypsy Swing, Western Swing, and anything else that they damn well please! Filthy, Mangy Jazz is their forte! All of this madness came about due to John Sandlin and Muni Kulasinghe's mutual love for the great Hot Club of France, a gypsy swing group from 1940's Paris, which included the combined genius of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli. Jared Putnam's western swing background has fused itself into the mix and given them a fine repertoire of classic western swing tunes. In addition, Fernando Garavito's latin background has seeped into the rhythmic palette and given them a formidable groove.
The Midnight Creepers spend their time paying tribute to some of the legends of Soul and Blues, such as Lou Donaldson, Rueben Wilson, Jimmy McGriff, Lonnie Smith. Their rare Groove, Bogaloo, Funk, Soul, Blues-inspired Jazz, organ music, or whatever you want to call it, is undeniable to the soul and the feet. The line-up includes Michael Jaramillo on Traps, Colin Darby on Saxophones, Mathew Lowe on Electric Guitar, Nate K., Eric O., or Cameron Bourg on Electric Bass, and James Breslin on Organ/Keys. Although The Midnight Creepers main focus is on the "Rare Groove" genre, the sound of the band still remains quite rare and unique.
The Saltine Ramblers formed in late 2004 in the Albuquerque, New Mexico area. The current lineup features original members Kevin Strange and Cory Minefee with Dave Ivey and Dave Payne. The Ramblers perform their own brand of bizarre Americana, and compliment it with old-time fiddle tunes, bluegrass standards and not-so-standards, rock n' roll, Rio Grande delta blues and so on. The Saltine Ramblers completed their first self-released album "Gajos De Manderina" in April '05 and have since created a series of free home recordings for distribution at shows. These include "Salt Trek" and "Friskey" from 2006 and "Warning: The Saltine Ramblers!" from 2007.

Ready to blow off some steam after Thanksgiving?
BlindDryve is an alternative metal band originally formed through a victory in the 104.7 The Edge Ultimate Band contest. Only two original members remain; Chris Sandov...al and Daniel Gonzales. The two newest members are Jimmy J. Medina and Kirk Kapple. BlindDryve has a very original sound and song writing style that range anywhere from "old school thrash" to "new age metal" offering an intense, energetic live performance and addictive, adrenaline-pumping music. BlindDryve has recently released a full-length studio album, "World Insane." The album (and this Black Friday performance) is sure to surprise and leave you craving more!
It took a few months for Sketches in Black to finally come together as a band, but now that they're here, they're never looking back! They all have a wide variety of musical tastes and influences that span across the decades. From Frank Sinatra to Pantera you're bound to hear a roller coaster of melodies and harmonies in their songs. They believes in the "old" style of music of meaningful lyrics, solos, multiple chord changes, and also the new of heavy distortion and the thumping bass drums that melt faces. This doesn't mean you wouldn't find Sketches in Black doing an acoustic show for fans or at an open mic night. Diversity is what they strive for and we just know you'll love their music no matter what you're into!
Coming all the way from El Paso, Voyeur offers living proof that there's more to the South than soul food, rebels and such. Voyeur is a band that stakes its artistry on its versatility and open-mindedness. Casting a wide net, Voyeur pulls in musical inspiration from a broad range of music and experiences and attempts to reinvent those inspirations into music that covers just as wide a range. Boredom takes a backseat when listening to Voyeur. With everything Voyeur has got going on, it's nearly impossible to take the time to stop and smell roses. But that's okay; Voyeur has bigger and better things than roses to concern itself with.

The Historic El Rey Theater BIG THANKS to everyone who joined us for The Ditty Bops on Wednesday (10/28)! What a GREAT turnout! We really enjoyed the contrast of the two great groups. The boys had their rip-roarin, foot-stompin' set, while the ladies countered with haunting harmonies and beautiful songwriting. We're also VERY proud of all the folks that biked to the show in the cold!

Only $15 for UNM students with student ID. $15 for Children 12 and under accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. $25 for everyone else.
Performers: Jesus Muñoz will host nationally and internationally renowned artists of the highest caliber (TBA).
Email: elreytheater@qwestoffice.net or... jesus@jesusmunozflamenco.com
If you want to be overindulged for just one night then this is it. This evening's performance will feature nationally and internationally renowned artists of the highest caliber. Imagine Carnegie hall meets a small bar in southern Spain and what you get is nothing less than the highest quality musicians and dancers set within a raw, yet uniquely intimate setting of tablao-style flamenco and all of its idiosyncrasies. Yes! Wine, tapas, virtuosic footwork, guitar, beautifully-figured women in gorgeous dresses and handsome, talented men that will have you melting in your chair.
What to expect? Expect the unexpected. This group is dedicated to taking risks; all the risks that are necessary to allow for the exploration and development of the cante jondo, or deep song. What does "Flamenco Por Derecho" mean? Dancing "Por Derecho" has always been considered the purest and perhaps one of the most difficult ways to dance Flamenco. Reason: It is heavy on improvisation and even when choreographed it relies almost solely on the interpretation of the song. If the song changes, the dance must follow, therefor the dancer in essence becomes a musician and more specifically like the conductor of an orchestra.
Please be our guests for this enchanted flamenco evening! Be our guests for our Noche flamenca. We have a very limited number of tables available by reservation only. Call or e-mail Jesus today to reserve a table.
This is a 21+ event, but because it will be fun for all ages, persons under 21 will be admitted with a parent or legal guardian.Read More

Performers: Gregory... Alan Isakov and Chatter.
Proudly presented by Puccini Productions and sponsored by Whole Foods Market and BikeABQ
A mysterious traveler is coming into town: a musician with an old soul and a lot of talent. Gregory Alan Isakov is a singer-songwriter whose poetry and melodies will take you to the stars.
Born in South Africa, Isakov’s family immigrated to the U.S. in opposition to the apartheid. "The experience instilled in me the feeling that life is quality not quantity based." Isakov was seven when they settled near Philadelphia, a time he describes as understandably challenging for the family, though he personally felt at home in his new multi-cultural environment. Since then, Isakov has been a roamer. "I’ve lived in so many different places; I don’t feel indigenous to anywhere."
Isakov feels an artistic kinship with folks like Kelly Joe Phelps (he admires his ability to merge heaviness with humor) as well as Brandy Carlile, who offered to sing and record parts of "This Empty Northern Hemisphere" at her studio. The pair also cut Leonard Cohen’s "One of Us Cannot Be Wrong," as a duet. Isakov co-produced the album at various locations with Jamie Mefford who also engineered and is credited with God Noises.
He’s accompanied throughout by his band, The Freight: Jen Gilleran (drums), Jeb Bows (violin) and Phil Parker (cello). Isakov plays guitars, banjo, piano and harmonica, among other instruments. "This Empty Northern Hemisphere" is Isakov’s latest album. On it he conjures the miracles and heartaches of day-to-day living, then transforms them into melodies, with a serious commitment to songcraft and musicianship.
Chatter will be opening for Isakov. Chatter is a local chamber ensemble that was founded in 2003 by David Felberg, violinist, and Eric Walters, cellist. The group was formed in order provide opportunities in Albuquerque to hear 20th and 21st century musical works for chamber ensemble and chamber orchestra. In addition to its unique repertoire, Chatter contributes to New Mexico’s cultural life by employing the area’s finest professional musicians, whose individual artistry is honored by programming solo works. Chatter is also committed to young musicians, frequently featuring members of the Albuquerque Youth Symphony in side-by-side performances.
Advance tickets are available for $15 at Bookworks, Encore Music, Birdland, over the phone at 1-866-I-GET-TIX (1-866-443-8849), and online at GetTix.net. Service charge, facility fee, and/or handling fee may apply. You can also purchase tickets at the door the day of the show for $20.

The Historic El Rey Theater offers a gentle reminder that the lot behind us is not our lot. If you do not pay, the owner will boot your car and demand a ransom of $100 to remove the boot or will tow you if you do not pay the ransom! Do not let this happen to you. We recommend parking on the street if possible or across the street at "Park It Place" on 6th and Central, which is well-lit and much safer.

Liquid Gyps...y is Albuquerque's premiere psychedelic rock band, playing a blend of original songs mixed with a healthy dose of their own "spin" on The Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, The Allman Brothers Band, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and others. Jam band and classic rock fans of all kinds will feel right at home on Liquid Gypsy's dance floor. Though heavily "dosed" with versions of some of your favorite tunes, the band has developed and mastered its own unique style of collaborating not only with one another, but also with their audience. Liquid Gypsy is guaranteed to keep you shakin' on Shakedown Street! The band can hardly wait to show off the new additions to the band and their mesmerizing light show. Liquid Gypsy is Scott Bruggeman (keys & vocals), Larry Jaramillo (guitar & vocals), Mike Druxman (bass & vocals), Steve Henao (drums), and the newest addition, Jacob Lowery, whom you may remember from Seth and Jacob (guitar).
Originally from the Detroit area, Stephanie Hatfield began singing in 3 different church choirs at the age of 8. Her first solo in front of a congregation of 200 began her life long passion for performing that has been evident to anyone who has heard her. Focusing primarily on classical music she began competing and performing which eventually led her to study classical performance at Michigan State University. Originally in pursuit of opera, she promptly fell in love with Jazz improv which began the second phase of her musical education. A move out West after college brought an expansion of musical experience including broadway, country, folk and rock. After compiling a collection of original music, Stephanie has been in the studio at Frogville to create her debut album with amazing musicians such as Matt McClinton (grunge rocker and amazing producer), Bill Palmer (Hundred Year Flood guitarist and Frogville engineer/producer), Jason Aspeslet (drummer of Trilobite, Zaduo, The Quartrio, and Bernadette Seacrest), Kevin Zoernig (keyboard genius) and Tommy Stephenson (keys for Tommy Bolin, Joe Walsh, Eric Clapton, The Eagles, and more).
