Hiawatha Lofts & Businesses will be hosting their biannual Open House in the N. Rainier Valley / Jackson Place Community. The Open House is an opportunity for artists & Hiawatha businesses to showcase ...their live/work studio spaces to the public. This Fall season’s spectacles include trick-or-treat meet & greet, all-ages costume contest with prizes from local businesses and a variety of music/entertainment. Come join us in your most creative costume and bring the family to enjoy a frightfully fun evening with neighbors and friends.
SCHEDULE:
5 – 7pm Trick-or-Treat / Meet & Greet (family & children friendly)
In addition to the 4 floors of open artist studios, the following businesses will be offering candy & treats for children: Café Weekend, Working Dog Bicycles, My World Dance & Fitness
6pm Alek Vila Band
Original pop-rock style group featuring singer/songwriter Alek Vila and Hiawatha’s own Scott Walsh on drums.
7pm Kid’s & Family Costume Judging
7:30pm Nu Black Arts West Theatre
Performance by artist Kibibi Monie.
8:15pm Radio Daddio
Featuring singer/songwriter Bob Krinsky, Ric Jackson (keyboards) & singer/songwriter Lee Robinson (mandolin).
9:30pm Adult Costume Judging
10-11:30pm Susan Harper Conspiracy Band
Featuring sultry vocals by singer/songwriter Susan Harper and drummer Vern Lawton.
FEATURED EVENTS:
Cafe Weekend – Ghosts, Ghouls & Goons: Scary Comics from Fantagraphic Books. The first 50 children visiting Café Weekend on Saturday, October 24 from 5-7pm will receive a free copy of Fantagraphics special Halloween edition of "POPEYE vs. THE GHOST" or "A PEANUTS HALLOWEEN."
Halloween Piñatas – smashing fun!
Hallava Falafel Truck – local sumptuous Middle Eastern fair to-go.
Street Closure - Decorate the streets with chalk and play with the kids in a variety of activities in a safely blocked off area outside the building. Neighbors, feel free to bring your pumpkins to carve in the street.
Costume Contest – Prizes include promotions and gift items from Hiawatha residents & the following local businesses: Café Weekend, Budd & Co. and Goodwill (Seattle).
