I'm a California native and a graduate of U.C. Berkeley, where I majored in theater and minored in everything that Berkeley has a reputation for.

After college I moved to Los Angeles, where I have made an interesting living doing novel adaptations and selling original suspense and horror scripts to various Hollywood studios.

My first novel, THE HARROWING, a ghost story, debuted from St. Martin's Press in September 2006, and was nominated for an Anthony and a Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel. My second book, THE PRICE, a supernatural thriller, was recently called "some of the most original and freshly unnerving work in the genre" by the NY Times Book Review. I'm contracted with St. Martin's for my next two books and with Harlequin Nocturne for a fifth.

THE UNSEEN comes out from St. Martin's Press on June 1, 2009, and is based on the real-life parapsychology experiments conducted by Dr. J.B. Rhine at Duke University.

I recently served on the Board of Directors of the Writers Guild of America, west; and I'm a new member of the Board of Directors of Mystery Writers of America.
