I love bands that can make dreary music that's full of anguish, but somehow still really catchy. That's what drew me to a group out of Minneapolis, Minn. called Ice Palace. The title of the band's latest CD, Wonder Subtly Crushing Us, sort of says everything you need to know about the music. ...

For slow dancin, I recommend Tom Waits "Picture in a Frame" or (my personal favorite) Magnetic Fields "Book of Love." For fast dancin, the new Michael Franti "Say Hey (I love you) is tough to beat.

It seems a fair exchange: We tell you about great music; you tell us about great music. One downside, though, is this: The music, email and Facebook messages you send me aren't seen or heard by others. And if I don't put it on the show, then it stays your secret.

I have to agree with Bob. My wife loves American Idol and Adam lambert in particular. I think this is part of the reason for the decline in pop music in the last 10 years. I may even go as far as saying that for the most part, American Idol is one of the signs of the coming apocalypse.

I admit like the show, but after it ends, I never listen to the contestants again. What's up with that? Adam - maybe the worst finalist ever. He's on pitch, but who cares? His Led Zeppelin sounded like a Las Vegas lounge version.
