Alliance Francaise de Pasadena
The Alliance Française de Pasadena is pleased to present a lecture in French by Professor Lucien Laude on the critical role played by France in the formation of the United States during the important period from the mid-18th Century to the mid-19th.
Jolted by political events, forgotten by their homeland and neglected b...y their adopted country, these early French settlers were nevertheless both witnesses and actors in the early development of America. Laude tells their story with reference to the emergence of the United States as a continental power, the expansion West, and native American Indians. It’s a story of survival in a turbulent era of history that often goes untold, but which merits our attention today.
Lucien Laude is professor at the Doheny Eye Institute at USC. A physicist by training, he has a passionate interest in the impact and legacy of French settlers around the world – a heritage that has all too often been forgotten by the French themselves. By studying foreign source materials, Laude attempts to recreate the impact of French settlers in distant lands.
