Nursing Home Video Poem: “Living Colors”
“Living Colors” was inspired by one of my Detroit hospice patients who had Alzheimer’s disease and poor eyesight. More sight problems could be corrected if nursing home residents received vision care regularly. My patient needed assistance to eat, but there was a staff shortage ...that day. Staff shortages negatively impact patients. Using her fingers, she started feeding herself. A hospice volunteer, I arrived to find her with food smeared around her mouth. After wondering what that experience might have been like for her, I wrote "Living Colors."

Edward Leffler
I'm really interested in Fred Hassan's characterization of Alzheimer's
disease as our biggest health care challenge. Wondering what others
think of his article and proposed solutions:

We must address this crisis. We must begin by putting Alzheimer's into the center of our national dialogue about reforming health care.
