This world premiere musical is an adaptation of Geoff Ryman's novel "Was" which weaves together the adventures of two characters who live a century apart. Th...e first story concerns Dorothy Gael, an orphan sent to live in Kansas in the 1870's, who ultimately becomes the inspiration for Dorothy of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The second story follows Jonathan Wood, an actor, whose lifelong obsession with The Wizard of Oz, leads him to Kansas 100 years later hoping to find proof of Dorothy's existence. "Was" takes its audience on a complex and tuneful journey that is, by turns, heartwarming and heartbreaking, tragic and triumphant. Read More

Through the loss of family fortune and her true love, Veronica recognizes that only as a courtesan will she retain access to an education and a place in the cultural and political life of her city. Featuring a score that combines the best of classical and pop styles, this story is based on Margaret Rosenthal's 1992 novel The Honest Courtesan and the New Regency motion picture Dangerous Beauty screenplay by Jeannine Dominy.

The Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project returns to Northwestern University for its fourth year! We are currently seeking talented songwriters or... writing teams, ages 18-30, from all popular music genres to participate.
Located on Northwestern University’s Evanston campus, this week-long songwriting intensive will feature award-winning composers and singers in collaboration with talented young writers. Led by our 2009 Master Teachers CRAIG CARNELIA (Tony Award-nominated composer and lyricist of Sweet Smell of Success), LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA (Tony Award-winning creator of In The Heights) and LARI WHITE (three-time Grammy Award-winning songwriter), the intensive will include:

When Todd falls in love with the wealthy, high-spirited (aka slutty) Gina Jenner who lives next door, he is forced to choose between his safe existence in bubble-ed captivity and a chance at of the life he’s always wanted, but with the risk of imminent death.Read More

For the past three years, the American Music Theatre Project in partnership with the Johnny Mercer Foundation has created a unique week-long songwriters intensive, honoring the legacy of Johnny Mercer and the Great American Songbook.
Emerging songwriters from a wide range of genres including, rock, pop, latin, cabaret..., music theatre, country, jazz and more spend a week working with luminaries from the world of songwriting.
Past master teachers have included- Amanda McBroom ("The Rose") Craig Carnelia (Working), Lari White (Green Eyed Soul), Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party), John Bucchino ("Grateful"), David Zippel (City of Angels).
Participating performers have included Brian d'Arcy James, Jason Graae, and Tony Winner Heather Headley.
Participants in the program have won major awards including the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation Grant, and the Fred Ebb Award.Read More
