The marathon to upgrade the old American Red Cross warehouse continues! We had 3 dead gas space heaters that were located in our pallet racks blocking our storage and 1 that needed service. Fortunately Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors Assoc of N. TX http://www.phccnorthtexas.org/ agreed to assist us. Lee McFarland... of Herndon/McFarland in Addison sent David Lumbley and Gustavo Vallejo to battle and wrestle with the old mechanical beasts. They were successful in their fight though the beasts fought back with rusted fittings and raining birds’ nests on their heads. Larry Curtis of Curtis Mechanical, in Desoto furnished the scissor lift which allowed David and Gustavo to look at the monsters eye to eye. Sadly, *sniff sniff* the 4th old heater was also pronounced dead. They hauled them all to the parking lot and let the scrap metal scavengers fight over them. THANKS so much PHCC of N. TX for helping us! Now, I’m relying on El Nino and global warming will keep our pipes from freezing. Either that or I will have to hit the streets begging. Brother, can you spare a warehouse heater?Read More

American Red Cross Chisholm Trail Chapter Volunteer Lisa Ortner sent this article our way. It's great to know that amid all of the uncertainty that comes with evacuating from one's home, there is some respite in the Red Cross shelter.

American Red Cross Chisholm Trail Chapter Here's where all the magic happens... Well, maybe not magic - but certainly a lot of hard work. This is our disaster warehouse. Until last week, it had no prominent Red Cross signage or identification on the building. Thanks to volunteer LeaAnn Layne, we have a new sign hanging on the building that will serve as a great backdrop to photos and media coverage received by the chapter. Thanks, LeaAnn!
