Paul Becker

Paul Becker I'm looking at your Getting Started Supplement 2010. I'm glad you show installers using lanyards for fall protection. Since panels may need maintenance, you might want your readers to know that installing permanent fall protection anchors on their roof (peak) will faciltate future safe repairs and maintenance.

On a different note. It's 5, not 6am, watching "Planet Green channel", was able to see the whole episode of, Who Killed The Electric Car. Angry, and sick to my stomach, is No way to start my Sunday. Monday will make me feel so much better, when I'm pulling 4 thermal solar collectors up on to one of my customers' roof.

I wish these optimistic "job reports" would dig into how many of those jobs are blue collar and how many are being filled by former white collar workers taking huge pay cuts and being forced to finance their own re-education due to outsourcing. I can empathize with Steven. Getting into RE is hard. Most of us are not auto workers with the ... Read Morepolitical clout of a union to get political support for a bailout. I've managed to get a foot in the door of solar PV doing installs and some PE plan certification, but I had to do a lot of self-education, a lot of networking and keep a stubborn determination to make the change. Even with my MSEE and PE license, since I don't have a power background, most corporate employers won't give me the time of day, despite my many years of engineering experience and transferable skills. If it is what you believe in, Steven, keep at it and you'll find something. Attend relevent conferences, clubs, events and talk to everyone.

American Solar Energy Society You can expect to see more announcements like this 500 MW solar facility for the U.S. Army in the years ahead as the government looks to reduce it's longterm energy costs. FYI - the U.S. federal government is the world's largest energy consumer.

Alt energy for the Military is a no brainer. They should be one of the front line entities in the US seeking and implementing revolutionary technologies to make us self-sustaining and not dependent on Saudi Arabia. The sooner the better, for our recruits and our country as a whole.

Alex In a shocking unilateral move,
leadership of the Florida Solar Energy Industry Association announced
support of the offshore drilling initiative perpetrated by a well
financed group of oil lobbyists who allege an
undefined potential commitment to support the Solar Industry
with a future stream of revenue from oil drilling and exploration.
