Amy's recipe-inspired song cycle for female voices with live looping electronics, plus beautiful world music by Solstice. This show will be performed TWICE as part of the Women on the Way festival:
• SUNDAY JANUARY 24 (sharing bill with Anne Bluethenthal & Dancers)
• FRIDAY JANUARY 29 (sharing bill with Christine Cal...i & Dancers).
Avant-cabaret composer/performer Amy X Neuburg appears with the wonderful and versatile Solstice vocal ensemble to present her “Fill as Desired” (“Beliebig Füllen”) song cycle for female voices with live looping electronics. Sung in English, German and Czech, the songs are based on recipes that were collected by women in the Terezin concentration camp, cleverly layered with Amy's own texts on fantasy as a means of survival. The music draws from Eastern European folk, German lieder, Weimar cabaret, and the avant-garde, and features Amy as vocalist and looping electronics performer -- recording and overdubbing eight voices into a multi-layered, multi-language chorus.
Solstice is Emily Bender, Becca Burrington, Lark Coryell, Krista Enos, Mari Marjamaa, Kim Warsaw, and Sara Webb-Schmitz.

The award-winning Solstice ensemble will open the evening with a set of their beautiful a cappella world music. Amy will fill out the evening with several songs from her solo voice/looping repertoire (including perhaps something new!).
The Jewish Music Festival originally commissioned “Fill as Desired” for their 2005 program (where it received overwhelming response) and is a co-sponsor of this new expanded version.
