Herry Thanks so much for your entry on my archive about Valentine (Nicholas). So glad you met him; he was indeed a very special person. Fortunately, the internet is now bringing me more and more notes from people who knew him. What a joy all these gossamer connections are!

My uncle Valentine, who died in 1991, was a most interesting character. Gay - long before it was fashionable or even legal - brilliant (a double first) and extremely cultured. He was educated at Repton ...

Linda Miller First found you through Bing images relating to Marcel Proust, and find here so many references to those delightful decorators, designers and other artists who, to my sorrow, are increasingly esoteric and less of this world. Loves it.

Carey Pickard The insanely well read Aesthete adds tremendously to my understanding of the world--and to the pile of books on my bedside table!

Juan P Lluria I have come to regard this as THE BEST blog dealing with taste, design and the decorative arts. If I don't get my fix, I feel withdrawl symptoms!

Richard Wyland
I love the Aesthete's pieces...Fun,interesting,thoughtful...Di d I mention fun?

Doris Athineos Best design blog in the world. x,d

Eva Putman I get a real kick out of your website. It is always interesting and entertaining. Thanks you very much.

Brilliant and powerful, always.
Great when it's slightly subversive, too.

Adam Great to see you on FB! Thank you for serving as an example for aesthetes of substance.

Anne my new favorite blog!

Yes, the basketweave-rattan motif could be executed more finely. And the ceramic plate is perhaps a bit too chunky. But Cane, a 1970s Independence Ironstone production by Interpace NKT Japan, is quite arguably one of the most delightful tablewares stacked in our pantry.

I get the point of Dutch By Design's homeless-theme bedding—it's supposed to raise money to help people in need—but the cardboard-box print is jaw-droppingly offensive. And deeply creepy.
