Anchorage Animal Care and Control Center Poster Dog Contest: We had MANY great entries and the competition was very close! Thank you to all who participated! We clearly have some great dogs in Anchorage!

Anchorage Animal Care and Control Center Poster Dog Winners Announced! Winner: Otis, 3 year old Jack Russell Mix. His owner wrote: My dog Otis is almost three year old Jack Russell mix from Animal Control. I adopted him when he was 10 month old. His former owner had him only for a week and then brought him in because Otis was too aggressive with her small... children. Otis and I took several obedience and agility classes, joined play groups to meet other dogs and people. Now Otis is a very dog/people friendly happy-go-lucky dog. Sometimes I take him to work with me and everyone there enjoys his company. Otis knows lots of tricks like playing dead, spin, roll over, high five and bow and entertains them. Otis just passed Canine Good Citizen test in September and now working on Delta Society Pet Partner program so he can be a therapy dog and make more people happy! I would like everyone to know that rescue dogs can be happy and well behaved dogs with proper care, patience, love and exercise.

Anchorage Animal Care and Control Center Poster Dog Winners Announced! Runner up: Eddie, 5 year old Yorkie. His owner wrote: Eddie is living proof that a dog doesn't have to be an Alaska breed to thrive in Alaska. In booties and a coat, this 10-pound husky-wannabe embraces his daily walks in temperatures as cold as minus 5. He's neutered, been licensed hi...s entire life and has a string of accomplishments: He passed his Canine Good Citizen test on first try, his Delta Society Therapy Dog test on first try, and has visited residents at the Horizon House as a therapy dog in Providence Alaska Medical Center's PAWS program. He's also an accomplished agility dog and placed second out of 30 animals in the 2008 Alaska Pet Idol competition.

Anchorage Animal Care and Control Center Poster Dog Winners Announced! Runner up: Axel, ~2.5 year old, Retriever/Husky/Border Collie mix. His owner wrote: Axel is the perfect example of why shelter dogs make terrific pets. He was adopted in August 2008 from the Kenai Animal Shelter. There was no real history on him, except that he had been in the shelte...r at least twice. Axel is an amazing animal, he is not destructive, he is very quiet, completely potty trained and wonderful with our 3 year old son. He has taken to skijoring like second nature and is happiest when playing outdoors. This picture was taken in September 2009 at Hatcher's Pass (his favorite playground.) Axel now has a permanent home and family and he is very much loved!
