For the next version I am adding TIFF file support and the possibility to save all the mosaic settings in a file. At the same time I am planning on a new design and rewrite of AndreaMosaic with many many new features :)

Thomas Murray Andrea --- this is a great application ---- consider that the tiles could be just faces...... here is something I put together for Mother's Day...

Austin Nooe

Austin Nooe What are some public websites (ex: photobucket & imageshack) that allow larger sized photos to be uploaded (like 30mb)?

Gigapan.org, focused primarily on giga-pixel panoramas, will allow you to upload VERY large images using their "uploaded" PC/MAC client software.

Check put my mosaic on gigapan.org: key-in "digiman" in the search field and check out my "Wilmington NC Inner Bay" mosaic.

With the early versions of Deep Zoom Composer (probably now too) it was possible to publish the images freely on silverlight.live.com. The only problem with DZC are it's limits on handling very large images, it's slow. Don't know if the latest updates fixed this.

Uri i'm having some trouble, can u help me out? I get a pretty good mosaic but its not as good as one i bought some guy a few years ago, its like the main image gets too blury or not a good color, is it better to have a bright main pic or dark? or what can i be doing wrong?

Usually you need to have a lot of Images to use as Tiles. I create nice mosaics using a collection of over 30000 photos. AndreaMosaic will choose the 500 or 1000 images with the best match!

Michael Graham

Michael Graham Love this program - two questions: what is performance like on a quad core compared to a dual? (Have you tried it on an i7?) what is the best free/opensource program for finding and automatically downloading web images? I've tried a few, but haven't found one that gives good search results AND has auto/batch downloading. I'll post some of my mosaics very soon.

When AndreaMosaic was written we had only single CPU PCs and it will take some coding time to add internal multithreading (i.e. take an advantage of faster CPUs). If you need to create multiple mosaics just run multiple copies of AndreaMosaic at the same time on faster CPUs. About Image Rippers from the Web I didnt found much free software. I was thinking to add that feature into AndreaMosaic.

Macosaix, another mosaic builder for the MAC, can optionally build the mosaic directly from Flickr images.

Uday Sheth

Uday Sheth Is there a way to zoom. I want to show a sequence starting with one individual tile, then 4, 10, 50, 100, 1000 ultimately "resolving" into my final image/mosaic. I could create a series of mosaic with varying resolutions and somehow sequence them together but I think that is very inefficient. Any ideas.

You can use the free Zoomify tool. Or you can use the Microsoft Deep Zoom Composer tool. Both allows to view a very large image (mosaic). I used Zoomify here http://www.teramosaic.com

Daniel Cox

Daniel Cox very cool program. it has a lot of features considering that it's free.

Mike Rubin

Mike Rubin Any chance of supporting (very large) TIF/TIFF files? I am working with Giga-pixel images being generated for Gigapan.org, and thought it would be very slick to turn these into mosaics.

Lana

Lana HI Andrea - I am a yearbook advisor, always looking for new ideas, and I ran across your program! Now that I have looked at the program, I am hoping to convince the students next week that our divider sections can be mosaic pictures, made with your program! I will let you know what they decide! I personally think it would be great!

Jane

Jane Awesome indeed, thanks HEAPS for sharing this wicked program :o)

Heather Weir

Heather Weir I tried making a mosaic but I got a lot of pictures from the website Hulu.com??? how do I get those pictures off?

AndreaMosaic don't download images from the web. Check all images available in the folder (and subfolder) added to the Tile Collection. There you will find the images that are used. Just select a different folder or remove the images from the disk.

Add more images to your Tile Collection or use a lower value for the distance between duplicated tiles.
