Hi James, the footage in the ad shows what the 'Australian Codes of Practice' allows pig farmers to do to their pigs. There is nothing out of the ordinary about these images and what we're showing in the ad is standard legal practice - not 'unusual' cases of cruelty. 95% of mother pigs in Australia are kept in factory farms just like these. :(

Most farmers...and I know many..are adamant that their animals are well taken care of and 'happy''!!! It's not in their interest to say otherwise, is it??? Duh!!! Farm practises will only change when we, the public, DEMAND changes!

come on Matt you need to do some proper research proper vegetarians and proper vegans are fitter and healthier than those that consume animals.. i'm over 50 and vegatarian since i was in my early teens and vegan for the last decade and have more energy, am fitter and look years younger than my contempories... plus i have a clear conscious.

You are so right Margo! I have never felt fitter in my life. Also I have never taken supplements of any kind. I was pleasantly surprised on a recent trek just how many people in my group were Vegan and Vegetarian. Hiking at altitude is tough; any theory that we lack energy has been well and truly debunked!!!

Sir Nicholas Stern has also been making similar comments. Seeing people of this stature make such comments is very encouraging.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the phrase “cut back sharply”. Many people are turned off by the words "vegetarian" and "vegan".

Realistically, most people are not going to give up animal products entirely. (Not unless these products increase significantly in price, that is - which I believe will happen in the future).... See More

I think promoting one vegetarian/vegan day a week would be a good option for a "progressive redneck" culture like Australia.

Meat enthusiasts need to feel OK about having veg meals.

(Which isn't to say that there's anything wrong with the promotion of pure veg diets).

I think it's a very convenient truth and so do many pigs in cages and harpoon dodging humpies!
You're right though Donn, most people are far too blinkered to find their way to a vegan lifestyle. We can only pity them and help them along in some small way.
