Jesse Robbins, co-chair of O'Reilly's new Velocity Web Performance & Operations conference on June 23-24, 2008 in San Francisco, is looking to get more women involved. There are small number of Velocity session slots still open. Anyone interested in speaking there on Web Performance & Operations can send proposals to velocity-idea@oreilly.com or contact Jesse directly at jesse@oreilly.com. And iif you’re interested in serving on future program committees, contact Jesse or Gina Blaber, O'Reilly's VP of Conferences, at gina@oreilly.com.

In addition, Jesse made a generous donation to the Systers Pass-It-On Grant fund and is offering a conference discount to members of the Systers email community (see the conference21 thread). What a guy!

For more information on the Velocity conference see http://conferences.oreilly.com/velocity.

TV/SCIENCE: SEEKING COOL, DIVERSE SCIENTISTS TO HOST MAJOR NEW SERIES

TV Production company seeks young, dynamic scientists to build shows
around for major cable networks including Discovery Channel, Science,
History and National Geographic.
Help us cast a group of scientists who defy the "geeky scientist"
stereotype!

We are casting several scientists who embody an "up-to-the-minute" look
and who can engage broad audiences by explaining science in laymans
terms.
We're hoping to reinvent the way that people think about science and
scientists.
Requirements: you must be professionally employed in a scientific field
age 25 - 45. You must be energetic, articulate and have an
infectious love for all things science! To apply, send a photo
and a brief description of yourself (including your area of
concentration) to:
networkcasting@gmail.com
