Anne Arundel County Recycling Division In December the Anne Arundel County Recycling Division challenged middle school students to create sculptures depicting a winter holiday or activity using recyclable materials. There were 32 entries from 6 County middle schools. A selection committee, which included County Executive John Leopold, judged the entries b...ased on originality, creativity and use of recyclables. The student’s sculptures were displayed at the Recycling Division’s office during the holiday season.

Kirk Towner

Kirk Towner Did not see a current holiday curbside collection schedule posted on the website or here. I am assuming as today is the holiday, trash/recycling pickup will be Saturday. Also, how do we get added to the snail mailing list for updates? Happy 2010!

Hi Kirk,

The holiday collection schedule is on aacounty.org and at recyclemoreoften.com (rollover 'recycling info' then 'In my Community' then click 'Holiday Schedule). The 2010 schedule will be up soon at both of those websites. Essentially the County is on a 'sliding' holiday schedule meaning that if your collection day falls on a holiday or the day after a holiday, it will be collected the following day.

Also, if you are serviced by the County for your trash/recycling collection, you are already on our mailing list. Call our office at 410-222-7951 to confirm.... See More

Frank

Frank How can I recycle an old Dustbuster? I already removed the Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd) battery and recycled it separately. It's mostly plastic, but there is metal in the motor and AC adapter. Can I put the rest of it in the single stream recycling dumpster at my apartment building? Or should I bring it to a convenience cent...er and recycle it with the electronics/computer stuff?

Jennifer Wazenski Our county's recycling program is awesome--thanks for your leadership on this issue. I wonder if you can tell me whether any efforts are underway to establish recycling programs in our regional shopping malls. Thanks.

Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for your question. We are always out promoting the benefits of recycling to businesses in the County. Recently, Arundel Mills has implemented recycling in the food court which has been successful. I suggest you contact the management of the local businesses and let them know you would like to see recycling there.

love love love this program! I am orginally from Colorado where they
do not have such programs. I do wish more states and cities would
adopt this.

Linda Weeks

Linda Weeks Anne Arundel County is doing so well, the advertising, the concept, even the logo, I wish I could make Baltimore County wake up and smell the coffee. It's like pulling teeth to get anyone to do anything half effective. It shouldn't have to cost a fortune to get these programs rolling! There are so many incentives to re...cycle, the good it does, and the bad that it doesn't; the economic factor, the health factors, the our beautiful county factor, how much does it take? Baltimore, the "city that reads" can't read the recycling symbol. I'm just sayin'.

Laura Gallagher

Laura Gallagher Hi! I work in downtown Annapolis and would like to know how to go about getting a recycling program started. We throw away tons of cardboard, plastic and glass every day. As of right now there is no system for recycling pickup. I am trying to get other companies interested. Any suggestions or ideas?

Nathan Rhinesmith What is the largest diameter branches that I can put out to be picked up? Also, how long can I leave the branches that I want to be picked up? I am cutting down a tree and was hoping to get most of the branches picked up curbside, the trunk I will have to find somewhere else to dispose of right? I also planned on ma...king bundles of branches using twine, is this a good idea? Thanks

Nathan,

Place leaves, grass, and brush in bags or other reusable container of your choice marked with an “X” visible to the curbside collection crew.

If branches or brush are not in a container, they must be bundled. Branches must be no longer than 4 feet in length and no larger than 4 inches in diameter.... See More

Stumps and branches over 4 inches but smaller than 30 inches in diameter are accepted at both the Glen Burnie and Sudley Convenience Centers. Larger stumps must go to Millersville.

Hope this helps!
