Of course, and if I go FB for business, I would extend the same access to you as you have to me here--it's not one-sided. I hope those of you who stay in ASI can at least get the name of the award changed to something more dignified; I keep thinking of Laugh-In for some reason...

Also, has anyone thought that perhaps the publisher was honoring the... See More author's insistence that there not be an index? As much as I think we need to hammer home the point to publishers, I don't like the idea of making an example of a publisher who might have been bowing to a celebrity author's preferences.

There are several obvious reasons why no index. One of my minor problems with the ASI statement was mindreading about index lack. Clearly. Either the author or publisher did not want an index for editorial or cost reasons. Also, the pub date was bumped up considerably, perhaps not allowing time for an index.

The actual inaccuracies in the ... See Morestatement that are being brought out are also problematic. Clearly a rash action and statement.

I would like to think it would not have happened at all if there had been vetting and consideration.

Wyman Indexing According to Christopher Buckley, “If you’re writing a substantial book, ... there’s a moral obligation to write an index" --

The Alaska governor’s new memoir will have no index, robbing D.C. insiders of their favorite game: seeing their names in print. Samuel P. Jacobs on the death of the “Washington Read.”

Are there any other sources for this? Such an instant quote without a source is suspect. I've Googled Christropher Buckley/Going Rogue/ Palin/index and have not come up with a verification.

But, great statement!

Not that I can find. Doesn't seem to be an easy way to ask the author for verification, either. But again, just not that I can find ... yet. I agree that it's suspect, but then again, Buckley is one glib master. ;-)

Wyman Indexing Two authors at opposite ends of the political spectrum -- David Plouffe, The Audacity to Win and Sarah Palin, Going Rouge -- have just released books without indexes. What do they have in common? Both books have no index.ARGH! Whatever the reason, misplaced notions of how to give credit or to avoid the Washington read,... in neither can we look up people or events or subjects. --Thumbs down to both authors.

The 10th edition also includes a new chapter 13, "Medical Indexes." I was honored to consult with the editors for that chapter.
