Anne Stahl - contemporary abstract landscape painting

Anne Stahl - contemporary abstract landscape painting Every once in a while you find great art. After curating a bunch of
rather uninspiring work in the morning (about 100 of them), I tried to
catch up on my emails and amongst them a message from a Danish artist
with a link to his website. What a pleasant surprise to find truly
stunning and visionary images.

Anne, your words make me so proud, since I'm a great fan of your work. I'm happy you see the same kind of parallel I did, even if it's not the same. I'm moved. Thank you.

Q: I was wondering about your background, when you decided you wanted to be an artist, where you studied (if you studied)?

Anne Stahl - contemporary abstract landscape painting Detail of grid image. I added more wax and surface scratches, then it got dusted in a green metallic pigment. Shimmering through is the print, paint and previous wax layers, with the scratches picking up a lot of the pigment. Full image coming soon.

Anne Stahl - contemporary abstract landscape painting Before I went onto the panel, I worked on canvas. So this is one of the 'transition' pieces. New studio lighting has enabled me to take photos even of reflective and/or dark work.

I keep getting emails where people ask me questions about my work, my process, my inspirations, materials, techniques and my disortation. Finding myself strapped for time in the studio, but wanting also to help and be available to questions, I decided to start posting my answers on this blog.

Anne Stahl - contemporary abstract landscape painting While I deliberate over how to continue on the previous piece, this painting appeared on a new panel. Quite as if by magic.

Like most it's encaustic on panel with a print base. This one also includes raw pigment (chalk).

Anne Stahl - contemporary abstract landscape painting

Anne Stahl - contemporary abstract landscape painting I going to try to document my process and put together an encaustic 'How To' blog. The first part is already done, it's about Materials, Ingredients and Tools. Part II and III coming in the next weeks.

Part II: How to make the encaustic paintPart III: Techniques and Painting with encausticsThere are many receipes for mixing your own encaustic paints. Experimenting on your own, will give you the paste you like best. First you'll need to get some ingredients and tools:

TED Talks Henry Markram says the mysteries of the mind can be solved -- soon. Mental illness, memory, perception: they're made of neurons and electric signals, and he plans to find them with a supercomputer that models all the brain's 100,000,000,000,000 synapses.
