I worked enough weekend night shifts in the early years to tell a few stories...have to sift through'em a bit first. Some characters/events which come to mind:

It was a great trip. KC has been instrumental in putting us in a position to take on a really exciting project. We're using the transparency contract he developed for the coffee we are buying this year from Peru and working on some really interesting ideas for the future.

Cupping, discussions and farm visits remind us of how fortunate we are to have the opportunity to transparently source this fantastic coffee. Look for the fruits of our labors in the coming months!

Sacred Grounds Organic Coffee Roasters Grounds for Health auction raised $76,000 for a very worthy cause! We were able to buy a bag of coffee produced by our favorite Costa Rican micro mill, Miramontes/Helsar de Zarcero. The Llano Bonito de Naranjo lot was graciously donated by Cafe Imports. (Thanks Cafe Imports!)

We'll keep you posted and when it arrives we will donate additional proceeds from the sale of this coffee to Grounds for Health.

The Chemex... Read More® coffeemaker was invented by Peter J. Schlumbohm, Ph.D., in 1941. Schlumbohm was born in Kiel, Germany in 1896. He received his doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Berlin. Being a doctor of Chemistry, he was very familiar with laboratory apparatus and the methods of filtration and extraction. He applied this knowledge when designing his coffeemaker. He examined his laboratory glass funnel and his Erlenmeyer flask and made modifications to each. He modified the laboratory funnel by adding an "air channel" and a pouring spout. He added the "air channel" so the air displaced by the liquid dripping into the vessel could easily escape past the laboratory filter paper, which was to be used in the funnel as the filter media.
