Dear colleagues, friends;
I thought you might like an opportunity to cast your vote in today's
poll in our local newpaper. The question is "Should arts programs be
expanded in Mississippi schools?" and you can only vote today.
The poll is in response to the Jackson Public School board voting not
to fund the Mississipp...i Symphony's current year contract with JPS for
the strings in the schools program, the full orchestra concerts, and
the chamber ensemble informances.
This link will take you to the Opinion page where you may vote, and
also view the Saturday cartoon about the board cutting the string
program:

Please take a minute to vote. Also, I'm sending this to only about 20
folks outside of Jackson, so you can forward at will with minimal
duplication/irritation.
Thanks,

Can anyone imagine a school board deciding that the district no longer needed to teach math. Or, maybe it was just too expensive to hire all of those English teachers. Can anybody even imagine a school board firing all the football coaches and declaring sports dead.

The New Mexico Symphony Orchestra often performs at Popejoy, but since Aug. 31 , the 78 musicians in the orchestra have been in a pay dispute with the NMSO administration. As a result, the orchestra has stopped performing. Thirteen NMSO musicians are also faculty members at UNM.
