Leadership Broward Foundation began in 1982 as an educational program of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. It was designed to enhance participants' leadership skills, provide practical experience in community action, and facilitate opportunities for interaction with established community leaders -- all f...or the purpose of strengthening their bond to the community.
Upon completion of the first program year, the graduates formed Leadership Broward Alumni. The strategic plan for this organization was to establish a strong alumni association, work with the leadership program and eventually establish an independent organization that would combine the alumni activities with the running of the leadership program itself.
In 1987 a youth leadership training program was established -- Youth Leadership Broward. This program was initiated to educate select high school juniors about the issues facing Broward County and to encourage them upon graduation from college to become part of the solution. The final goal of forming an independent entity was reached in 1994 with the creation of Leadership Broward Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Leadership Broward Foundation's mission "to develop and inspire individuals to serve our community" helps stimulate leaders to work more effectively within their own spheres of interest and influence, leading to responsible and committed community trustees. The end result is a network of leaders dedicated to understanding and improving the quality of life in our region. Read More

The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation was established in 1971 by a small group of parents of children with diabetes who were committed to finding a cure for this devastating disease.
Driven by hope and fueled by the need to end their children’s suffering, the banded together to support a promising research program ...at the University of Miami solely aimed at curing those living with diabetes.
Through the efforts of this initial group of supporters, many of whom are still active in the organization today, the Foundation has evolved into an international coalition of business leaders, celebrities, research scientists, clinicians, families and other concerned individuals who have helped change both the scope and direction of diabetes research.
The Diabetes Research Institute has become the world leader it is today through the dedication and perseverance of the people involved with the Foundation – those who have a personal stake in the eradication of this disease.
Supported by private philanthropy, the DRI Foundation has been and continues to be the organization of choice for those who are serious, passionate and committed to finding a cure for their loved ones and millions of others with diabetes. Read More
