Art and Apathy
RAINDANCE FILM FESTIVAL

Review by Raindance Programmer:

A moving and informative documentary that studies the role of political art in the state of Israel amidst the Palestinian conflict, Art and Apathy observes the effect the dispute is having upon its cultural aspects including music, painting and poetry.

Amongst the ar...tists whose works are depicted there are contributions from conscientious objectors and a fifteen-year military veteran who use their respective mediums to campaign for the end to the atrocities that make their lives hell, and try to promote reconciliation through a completely peaceful process.

The film examines the segregation of the two countries, and conveys the message that the people of both sides want and end to the atrocities in a conflict that began long before the majority of their citizens were born.

Art and Apathy Donkaphant will be screening Mandatory Service-winner of Best Short Doc at this years Tribeca Film Festival.

The YOUnited Foundation is the first non-partisan film forum that merges the social and entertainment worlds. Our goal is to maximize the power of film by encouraging filmmakers to use a bold "artistic" voice in ...order to educate and inspire, while providing a safe venue for audiences to find their voice, take a hold of their opinion and take action by getting involved.

Our series of short films focus on how the issues affect America and how America affects the issues. We celebrate filmmakers who strive to educate and inspire our world with the art of film.

As America's education system attempts to redefine itself, The YOUnited Foundation serves as a creative outlet for young people to become expressive and involved.

The premiere of The Donkaphant Film Festival will be the first stop on The YOUnited Foundation's 2009 National Tour at high schools, colleges and other cultural centers across America.

This potentially fascinating documentary is a study of the relationship between conflict and creativity in Israel and Palestine. It’s a synthesis of four poetic pieces following Israeli artists from both the mainstream and the underground.
