I've tried to bring out a calm stillness which was aided by the the composition's horizontal lines. While posing the model, I liked the juxtaposition of the positive skirt shape against the negative background shape. Note the softness of the face contrasting with the hard edges of the skirt to create an illusion of space.

It's been a while since I painted an Indian woman so it was interesting to adjust to the difference in skin tones. I've painted the sari relatively loosely to draw attention to the choker and the mood on her face. I experimented with green harmony in this painting....
