Come to First Night Austin 2010!
On Thursday, December 31, 2009 we will celebrate our 5th Anniversary!
You are invited to play a creative role in transforming downtown Austin. The stage will be the city's plazas, parks, streets, storefronts, and building facades. Building, bridges and streets will be the city's canvase...s. Indoor venues will be settings for a palette of performing and visual arts.
First Night takes the ancient custom of marking the passage of time and transforms it into a citywide celebration of our cultural richness and artistic diversity. It began in 1976 as a finale to Boston's Bicentennial events and has since expanded into a tradition that brings neighbors and communities together in a way no other celebration could.
The concept of First Night Austin was created by a group of community-minded artists in Boston who were ignited by the idea of a citywide celebration of the New Year -- a meaningful alternative to traditional revelry. It is a family-friendly, affordable, and alcohol free New Year's Eve festival that celebrates art, ritual and festivity.
So join us on December 31st 2009 to continue this cherished tradition for Austin that celebrates the culturally rich and artistically diverse place we call home. Together we will illuminate this city!
A free,inter-generationally programmed, family-friendly and alcohol-free public celebration, showcasing the unique culture of Austin through expressive, creative traditions of performing and visual arts.
Artificial Life Preserver will be performing a 30 minute set at the City Hall Plaza Stage. Details of performance are below.
Artificial Life Preserver has been creating ambient electro-acoustic soundscapes since 2006. The ALP live set features Jen Mulhern on the cello, Mike hale on the drums, and Aaron Anthony on the sequencer. ALP covers a wide veriety of sonic landscape from ambient downtempo to electro-acoustic breaks. In conjunction with First Night Austin, Artificial Life Preserver is proud to bring you the amazing visual artistry of Paul Baker. Beginning with 8mm film, and moving on to 16mm, analog, and digital formats, Paul Baker has accompanied music with projections for 17+ years. Paul explores intensely minimal organic video patterns, and performs as a dub and space A/V selector.

Our intention is to co-create a dance experience with others who have the desire and curiosity to explore this medium of mind-body and space awareness. Throughout time, humans have gathered and... danced in ceremony. We have used dance as a means to get in touch with our inner and outer landscapes and as a tool to conjure light and dark energies. These energies are inherent parts of each of us. "Synergy" will be a supportive environment where we shall examine and express all aspects of ourselves, while remaining mindful to our dynamic and impact in our shared space with others. By building community with one another we create a safe, connective container within which we can develop deeper relationships to authentic self- expression and integral health."

Join us for an intimate and magical event, featuring three of First Night Austin's musical acts, offering you a sneak peek at our programming for this New Year’s Eve.
WHAT: H-E-B Presents First Night Austin 2010, this year’s edition of the ann...ual New Year’s Eve arts extravaganza in downtown Austin, will hold a Masquerade Ball to raise funds for the upcoming event, to give revelers a chance to preview their Halloween costumes, and perhaps most importantly, to offer a sneak peek at musical programming for this year’s First Night Austin.

On-site RV and primitive camping with access to several amenities. Ecologically-friendly and sustainable practices, including the use of renewable energy, reduced waste via recyclable, completable, and reusable products, educational activities and workshops, and healthy, locally produced organic food.

He feels on mission through the darkness that he has seen to spread vibrations of love and light to all global dancefloor. Noticing the dark spirit in Texas scene he feels it time to bring in new spirit of sunlight and goa through these cloudiness. Prepare a dance to seperate grooves.

***Location: Spirit Haven is 101 acres, home of the Council of Magickal Arts located in Fayette County. There is a ton of room for camping, separate from where the sound will be, with tons of trees and fire pits for small camp fires. So bring tents, hammocks, chairs, food to cook, etc. This is a very special plot of land and we are very privileged to be able to use it, so it is very important that we leave it just how we found it. Everything that you bring onto the land YOU must bring out.

"American Pierce Warnecke and Frenchman Romain Serrate are the two humans that comprise the Nth Synthesis. Two geeks from different backgrounds, both captivated by technology and intelligent machines. After releasing an EP on the Canadian label Nishi, they returned in may of 2008 with a dual 5 song, 3 video, EP on BEE Records. Throughout their work they draw a universe of catchy melodies, chopped beats and distorted fractals. Their technological electro borrows from IDM while avoiding the experimental cliche.
