I agree, environmental degradation is a HUGE HUGE problem. In India awareness about the importance of environment is literally non existent. For example Bangalore had 100s of beautiful lakes 20 years ago, but now most of them have been filled and apartments built on top. When I was growing up in Kerala we used to play/fish/swim in a little stream ... See Morenear my house. According to my grand dad that stream was around even during his childhood. But last time I visited the place, the stream has been FILLED and a road built on top !!!! How criminal!! it took them 2 days to destroy a natural stream which has been flowing probably for thousands of years, destroying whole ecosystems.

Now that doesn’t change the fact that Arundhati is a millionaire writer who makes millions of $$$ a year out of royalty from these so called "exploitative capitalist, parasitic" societies of America, Europe and India. She lives in high society Mumbai (correct me if I am wrong) trashing middle class (while she herself lives a middle class life). If she lives and works among the Adivasis she keeps talking about, then I would respect her. If she is true to her beliefs then she should REFUSE the money from the very capitalistic societies she abuses all the time. I have no more to say about this subject.
