THE ASBURY MUSIC CO. PRESENTS CARL CHESNA @ ASBURY MUSIC SERIES @ OLD MAN RAFFERTY'S on FRIDAY, JANUARY 8, 2010.
CARL CHESNA
Carl was born in Tarrytown, NY, and played in local bands from the age of 13 until he moved to NYC's East village at age 23. He lived in New York for about 10 years, performing regularly in and aro...und the city, and formed the Record Label "The Regular Recording Company", aka "Regular Records". What started as a vanity label ended up growing to promote a healthy roster of NYC-based artists - a diverse group, musically, including: 46bliss, Abby Straus, Amy Coleman, and Lasonya Gunther. He relocated to Asbury Park, NJ, and has been there ever since. He performs in and around Asbury Park on a regular basis, and will soon begin re-recording his second release, "Prayer to the Black Madonna". He has started the Asbury Wax Cylinder Recordings label, and writes the Mercury Retrograde Society column for Aquarian Music Magazine

ASBURY MUSIC COMPANY PRESENTS THE SUNDAY BLUES @ ASBURY MUSIC SERIES @ OLD MAN RAFFERTY'S (Cookman Ave., AP) on SATURDAY, JANUARY 9, 2010.
THE SUNDAY BLUES
Some bands cling to the adage of "everything old is new again" like a security blanket, content to stay stagnant and refusing to search for refinement in new sounds. ...The Sunday Blues, on the other hand, lay claim to all aspects of music to produce a song catalogue that is at once familiar yet entirely new and captivating. Drawing influences from genres that cross the musical spectrum, the band's "alt-country" tag only tells part of its story. Rising above the shimmering acoustics and screaming electrics is a true honesty in the lyricism of Keith McCarthy and Lindsey Miller, as they are anchored by the rhythm section of Kevin J. McMahon jr./Johnny Macko and Drew Clelland. The balance between the faith and betrayal of life is truly evident in the band's compositions. Whether it's the struggle between the sacred and the profane that highlights "Life Begins Now" or the age-old issues of fidelity that haunt "Miranda", the band gives an honest look at the nuances and idiosyncrasies of life that others are far too quick to cast aside. It's the subtleties of life, after all, that make it worth examining closer. The Sunday Blues bring that same subtlety and grace to their songs, and therein lies the true reward for the attentive listener. Life Begins Now...just don't forget to take notice of the shades of grey in between the black, white, and Blues.

ASBURY MUSIC COMPANY PRESENTS DAVE TUCKER: THE ASBURY MUSIC SERIES @ OLD MAN RAFFERTY'S in AP this SATURDAY, JANUARY 2, 2010. NO COVER, be there.
DAVE TUCKER
Dave Tucker is a singer-songwriter hailing from the northern suburbs of New Jersey, who has in more recent days found himself a sailor upon the open roads of Ame...rica, seemingly struck by a case of wanderlust. His musical journey has led him to stages from coast to coast, leaving audiences wanting more, reminded of a young Jackson Browne meets Keller Williams.
Influenced at an early age, Dave would listen to his father play folk music to his wife and six children. He trained his musical ear while listening to many of his parents records including John Denver, Chuck Mangione, and Jim Croce.
Rock n Roll was not allowed in the Tucker household, so Dave had to devise stealthy maneuvers to obtain his musical fixes. Sneaking a listen to the radio in his basement, he would quickly change the station at the sound of an approaching parent. He had four older sisters, whom he would steal tapes from and listen to in private, or play in the car whilst truckin’ along to some or another religious function.
As his musical taste grew, he became influenced by Dave Matthews, Suzanne Vega, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix- a smattering of just about everything. He was a member of the bands Meet Me in Montauk and Tabboo Love, before delving into his own style and playing solo. Starting with covers in the New Brunswick college bar scene, Dave quickly turned to performing original songs in many surrounding towns.
He has achieved the always difficult task of creating his own sound, while paying homage to the musical greats that furnished the soundtrack of his childhood. Combining unquestionably inviting poetry with a breathless air on guitar, his music is truly unique. Accompanying Dave to every show is his “toybox”- a homemade menagerie of foot-switch operated recording pedals. This creates repetitive, rhythmic melody, and adds depth to the already detailed music.
Just listening provides a wealth of insight into his personal experiences, which he artistically weaves into his thoughtful ballads. Even more moving is to watch him perform, breathing life into the emotion he seems to portray in this album. This is especially evident in “Bring Back Love”, which he co-wrote with Wendy Waldman.
His latest venture has taken him far and wide, from the Hollywood Hills, to the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. His talents have also become known internationally, taking him as far as Sweden and Finland.
“Inductive Reasoning” is his progressive first album, and was produced by Rob Hoffman, who has worked with Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones. It is an open window to the soul of the man behind the music.
Dave currently holds a residency at Arctica Bar in New York City, where you can find him performing an array of covers as well as originals every Tuesday night. Take a listen to Dave Tucker and his always satisfying words. He is well on his way to musical majesty.

ASBURY MUSIC COMPANY PRESENTS RICK BARRY'S DOWNTOWN SPEAKEASY HOLIDAY PARTY @ OLD MAN RAFFERTY'S this FRIDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2009.
RICK BARRY
Rick Barry's voice is as honest as a drink at a bar with an old friend. His lyrics are raw, unapologetic poetry that reach well beyond his years. Evolving from folk music, into a sou...nd that could only be described as "neo-folk," he has truly reinvented himself and has been met with rave reviews in cities across North America.
What sets Barry worlds apart from other songwriters is his complete lack of censorship. Where others use metaphors and pleasantries, he speaks with unadulterated candor. He has no limits, from politics to death, to the ills of society and the human element; he delivers a truth so bare, it's almost innocent.
His new EP "This Antediluvian World," represents the maturing of an already seasoned artist. And while his resume boasts numerous awards and accolades such as winning the grand prize for his song "Courage for a Rainy Day" in the John Lennon Song-Writing Contest among others, he dwells not in the past, but is constantly looking to the future of what his music will become.
In addition to accolades for his music, Rick has also received notice for the conception of his award-winning Night in Progress Series, which challenges songwriters to pen a full set of new, never-before-heard music in one month's time. These nights, originating at The Saint in Asbury Park, NJ, have hosted local as well as national talent and have recently expanded to include venues in other areas.

Dina Pyanoe plays her 12-string and sings a song as if it was for you. It just comes out that way. You sit and listen and let your senses remember the same notes you heard before on the radio or at a show. But Dina’s sound is different. Her voice can be soft or sultry; light or smoky; sleepy or out loud and hot.
When D...ina plays it, sings it — it’s just different, and you like it. We did like it. Wifey and I were at Piccolo Italia in Wayside, off Highway 35 on West Park Avenue. Piccolo Italia is a cute restaurant in a pleasant little merchants’ mall with neat shops.
Piccolo is a charming place as you enter, and cozy. Tables and relax-on benches let you park on them if it’s crowded, and the food is worth the wait. So we waited, and relaxed, and heard a song we enjoy from yesteryear, “Me and Bobby McGee,” popularized by Janis Joplin. It was like Joplin, it was cool, but it was something a bit unique, and special. We headed toward the bar and the music and spotted Dina Pyanoe, eyes closed, feeling every chord, as she sang Joplin. And as she sang James Taylor; the Eagles’ “Desperado”; the Beatles “Let It Be”; and Springsteen’s “Thunder Road.”
Dina did the Rolling Stones’ “Angie” like she does almost all her gigs, in her own way. with her own phrasing, but not to sell short the basic sound of the original performers.
