Ashanti worked in the corporate world as an IT consultant for nearly a decade and moved in somewhat a parallel manner into UK's media scene. She freelances for magazines like Anglomania, Brit Asian, Cineworld Unlimited, Asian Woman, Rave e.t.c and was editor in chief of the glossy Henna Magazine which was stocked on stands in Selfridges, London and UK's airports.
With the creation of The South Side Show, which she brainchilded in 2007, she has showcased many underground and unsigned acts, while interviewing the likes of AR Rahman and Aishwarya Rai and incorporating the views, culture and music of the Southern South Asian diaspora (Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tulu, Konkani) from all over the world.
With 1/2 Billion people around the world as potential listeners, the show captures 68 countries with listeners writing in from Trinidad to Tasmania to Toronto as fans. While also showcasing talents like Ash King, J Da Costa, Pirashanna and many more, the likes of Amitabh Bachchan speaking about his experiences in the South, the late H Sridhar on his close association with AR Rahman and John Mc Laughlin, Shankar Mahadevan of Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Abishek Bachchan speaking about Mani Ratnam, Aishwarya Rai about her beauty secrets, AR Rahman about everything, and much more.
Interviews have always been Ashanti's forte and she has been published in over 1000 editorial pages since her foray into journalism in 2003, while having presented over 60 shows of South Side.
