The Asian Women Leadership Network (AWLN) was conceived in New York City in July 2004 by a group of Asian women attending the Working Mother Media 2004 Women of Color Conference. Carol Evans, President and CEO of Working Mother Media, announced the group's formation at that conference, and, after several planning and organizing sessions, AWLN held its first official launch event on October 13, 2004, in New York City.
AWLN has held several professional development and networking events since that time, both live and via teleconference. In its first year alone AWLN’s membership grew rapidly to over 200, with members from various industries and corporations, both in the U.S. and Canada.
